Purpose: This experimental study was conducted to determine the effect of using a virtual reality headset on decreasing the pain felt during a venipuncture procedure in children.
Design: This was a randomized controlled study.
Methods: The population included 120 children (experimental group = 60, control group = 60) aged 9-12 years who underwent blood collection at a children's hospital clinic. This study collected data using the information form regarding introductory characteristics of children and the venipuncture procedure, the Visual Analogue Scale, and the Wong-Baker Faces Pain Scale.
Findings: This study found that the levels of pain that experimental group children felt during the venipuncture procedure were lower than the levels of pain indicated by control group children (P < .05).
Conclusions: It was determined that using a virtual reality headset has an effect on decreasing the pain felt during the venipuncture procedure.

Necrotizing fasciitis is a potentially life-threatening infection that can lead to rapid muscular and fascial necrosis, often resulting in sepsis. In addition to the rapid disease progression, diagnosing this disease in children can be challenging as they cannot accurately communicate their symptoms. Spontaneous necrotizing fasciitis secondary to Clostridial infection has rarely been described in the literature but occurs in neutropenic patients with significant morbidity and mortality from myonecrosis and gas gangrene.

Objective: To verify the effects of instructional therapeutic play on the behavior of children during the first attempt at peripheral intravenous catheterization.
Method: This is a quasi-experimental post hoc analysis with a non-equivalent control group, secondary to a randomized clinical trial. The convenience sample comprised 193 children, allocated for convenience into an intervention group (preparation for catheterization with a therapeutic play; n=101 children) and a control group (preparation with structured conversation supported by the use of a booklet; n=92 children).

Objective: to cross-culturally adapt and analyze the metric properties of the Adult Difficult Intravenous Access Scale into Brazilian Portuguese.
Method: methodological study carried out in two stages: 1) Translation of the scale from the original version in English to Brazilian Portuguese, including an assessment by a committee of nine judges, back-translation and semantic analysis; 2) Analysis of metric properties with 130 adults admitted to a hemodynamics unit in which difficult peripheral venipunctures occurred. Participants were followed up to check for the occurrence of difficult peripheral venipunctures.
