Analyzing manure nutrients such as total ammonium nitrogen (NH), dry matter (DM), calcium oxide (CaO), total nitrogen (-N), phosphorus pentoxide (PO), magnesium oxide (MgO), and potassium oxide (KO) helps in fulfilling crop nutritional needs while improving the profitability and a lower risk of pollutants. This study used two Near Infra Red (NIR) spectral datasets of fresh and dried manure. The freshly prepared NHCl, CaO, Ca(OH), PO, MgO, and KO samples were used for spectral signature peak identification and calibration.

Background: Damage to brain white matter often occurs in individuals with chronic kidney disease, which might be related to their cognitive decline. This study aims to investigate tract-specific white matter damage in patients with end-stage kidney disease by using fixel-based analysis.

Methods: Images of 31 end-stage kidney disease patients and 16 normal controls (aged: 61.

Breaking Left-Right Symmetry by the Interplay of Planar Cell Polarity, Calcium Signaling and Cilia.

Cells

December 2024

Laboratoire de Biologie du Développement, LBD, CNRS UMR7622, INSERM U1156, Sorbonne Université, F-75005 Paris, France.

The formation of the embryonic left-right axis is a fundamental process in animals, which subsequently conditions both the shape and the correct positioning of internal organs. During vertebrate early development, a transient structure, known as the left-right organizer, breaks the bilateral symmetry in a manner that is critically dependent on the activity of motile and immotile cilia or asymmetric cell migration. Extensive studies have partially elucidated the molecular pathways that initiate left-right asymmetric patterning and morphogenesis.

Indirect Fortification of Traditional Nixtamalized Tortillas with Nixtamalized Corn Flours.

Foods

December 2024

Departamento de Nanotecnología, Centro de Física Aplicada y Tecnología Avanzada, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Campus Juriquilla, Santiago de Querétaro C.P. 76230, Querétaro, Mexico.

Background: This work focused on the study of the indirect fortification of Mexican tortillas made from nixtamalized masa (NM) with nixtamalized commercial corn flour (NCC-F) fortified with Zn, Fe, vitamins and folic acid.

Methods: The chemical proximate values (CPV), ash content, mineral composition by inductively coupled plasma, in vitro protein digestibility (PD), protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS), the total starch content, the resistant starch (RS) content in nixtamalized corn tortillas (NC-T) and nixtamalized commercial corn flour tortillas (NCCF-T) and the contribution of tortillas prepared with a mixture of NM and NCC-F (75:25 and 50:50, NM:NCC-F) to the recommended dietary intake (RDI) of minerals and vitamins were determined.

Results: No significant differences ( < 0.

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) play a crucial role in bone formation through their ability to differentiate into osteoblasts. Aging, however, detrimentally affects the differentiation and proliferation capacities of BM-MSCs, consequently impairing bone regeneration. Thus, mitigating the aging effects on BM-MSCs is vital for addressing bone-related pathologies.
