Purpose: To investigate disk halo size changes produced by a glare source after surgical insertion of an implantable collamer lens with a central hole (ICL V4c) for myopia correction.
Methods: In this prospective study, disk halo size and pupillary light response with a vision monitor were measured preoperatively and at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months postoperatively. Pupillary light response parameters included contraction amplitude, latency, duration, and velocity; dilation latency, duration, and velocity; and initial, maximum, minimum, and average pupil diameters.
Results: Forty-two right eyes of 42 patients were enrolled. Postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity was better than or equal to 20/20 in all eyes. Compared to preoperative values, disk halo size showed no significant difference at 1 week postoperatively ( > 0.05) and then decreased significantly at 1 and 3 months postoperatively (both < 0.001). Contraction amplitude and velocity, as well as dilation velocity, decreased significantly at all postoperative time points (all < 0.001). Disk halo size at 3 months postoperatively was significantly correlated with initial ( = 0.446, =0.003), maximum ( = 0.483, =0.001), minimum ( = 0.425, =0.005), and average pupil diameters ( = 0.474, =0.002).
Conclusions: After ICL V4c implantation, disk halo size was reduced in the short term. Patients with smaller pupil sizes during pupillary response to light experienced smaller halos after ICL V4c implantation.

In the electron Born self-energy (eBse) model, free electrons are of finite-size and possess both a rest mass, m, as well as, a Born mass, m = 74,000 m. The Born mass, which originates from the energy contained within the electric field that surrounds a finite-sized electron, serves as a Dark Matter (DM) particle in this theory (designated eBDM, electron Born Dark Matter). The equation of state for m is w = -1, which implies that two Born masses experience a repulsive gravitational interaction.

This study aimed to identify and characterize isolates of Francisella salimarina associated with an outbreak on a marine fish farm in Brazil and to analyse their genetic variability and antimicrobial susceptibility. In 2021, diseased cobias (Rachycentron canadum, n = 10) and dusky groupers (Epinephelus marginatus, n = 10) were sampled and subjected to bacteriological and pathological examinations. The isolates obtained were morphologically and biochemically characterized and identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight (MALDI-ToF) and 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

Disentangling the structural components of the Milky Way requires knowledge of distances to various classes of objects, both young, which trace the Galactic disk, and old, which trace the Galactic bulge and halo. Variable stars that obey period-luminosity relations are perfect distance indicators for such studies. Here we discuss recent findings on the structure of our galaxy, inferred from period-luminosity relations for both young, old and intermediate-age variable stars, including Cepheids, RR Lyrae stars, Scuti stars, and long-period variables.

An innovative colloidal approach is proposed here to carry out the customized functionalization of TEMPO-Oxidized Cellulose Nanofibers (CNF) incorporating non-noble inorganic nanoparticles. A heterocoagulation process is applied between the delignified CNF and as-synthetized CuO nanoparticles (CuO NPs) to formulate mixtures which are used in the preparation of aerogels with antibacterial effect, which could be used to manufacture membranes, filters, foams, etc. The involved components of formulated blending, CNF and CuO NPs, were individually obtained by using a biorefinery strategy for agricultural waste valorization, together with an optimized chemical precipitation, assisted by ultrasounds.
