In three untreated patients with phenylketonuria (PKU), three PKU and six hyperphenylalaninaemic (HPA) patients in good metabolic control, the kinetic constants of platelet in vitro uptake of [14C]serotonin (5HT) did not significantly differ from those in 12 control subjects matched for age. The platelet concentrations of endogenous 5HT and noradrenaline (NA), taken as long-term indices of the amount of these amines circulating in plasma, were lower than normal in PKU and HPA patients, whether or not they were kept on a diet. However, a reduction in plasma NA concentrations at the moment of blood collection was seen only in untreated PKU patients. These data indicate that there may be a chronic inhibition of 5HT and possibly of NA synthesis even in PKU or HPA subjects in good metabolic control, with normal psychomotor development and only slightly raised plasma phenylalanine levels.

Trophoblast glycoprotein (TPBG) plays a significant part in the growth of specific cancers, yet its connection to gastric cancer (GC) remains uncertain. This research seeks to analyse the fluctuation in TPBG levels in GC and evaluate how TPBG expression relates to the prognosis of GC patients. TPBG expression in GC and normal gastric tissues was investigated in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) database, further extracting the immunohistochemistry images from HPA database and validating by Western blot.

Background: Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma (LIHC) is a prevalent and aggressive liver cancer with limited therapeutic options. Identifying key genes involved in LIHC can enhance our understanding of its molecular mechanisms and aid in the development of targeted therapies. This study aims to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and key hub genes in LIHC using bioinformatics approaches and experimental validation.

The dysregulation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM) represents a critical aspect of tumorigenesis. In this study, we investigated the diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic aspects of the MMPs in SKCM. Thirteen SKCM cell lines and seven normal skin cell lines were cultured under standard conditions for experimental analyses.

Objectives: To investigate the association of NUF2 expression with tumor prognosis and its regulatory role in tumor microenvironment.
Methods: We analyzed NUF2 expression, its prognostic value, and is immune-related functions across different cancer types using datasets from the Human Protein Atlas (HPA), TCGA, GTEx, CCLE, and TIMER. RT-qPCR, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry were used to detect NUF2 expression in liver cancer cell lines and tissue and blood samples from patients with liver cancer.
Background: Somatic symptoms, such as chronic pain, fatigue, and gastrointestinal disturbances, are commonly reported in individuals with a history of childhood maltreatment (CM), which includes various forms of abuse and neglect experienced before age 18. Although CM is strongly associated with somatic symptoms, the specific relationships between CM subtypes and these symptoms, as well as the mechanisms connecting them, remain insufficiently understood. This review examines the complex interaction between CM and somatic symptoms, which often coexist with mental disorders and significantly impact quality of life and healthcare systems.
