Severe lower respiratory tract disease following influenza A virus (IAV) infection is characterized by excessive inflammation and lung tissue damage, and this can impair lung function. The effect of toll-like receptor 7 (TLR7), which detects viral RNA to initiate antiviral and proinflammatory responses to IAV, on lung function during peak infection and in the resolution phase is not fully understood. Using wild-type (WT) C57BL/6 and TLR7 knockout (TLR7 KO) mice, we found that IAV infection induced airway dysfunction in both genotypes, although in TLR7 KO mice, this dysfunction manifested later, did not affect lung tissue elastance and damping, and was associated with a different immune phenotype.

Aging and apolipoprotein E4 () are the two most significant risk factors for late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD). Compared to , disrupts cholesterol homeostasis, increases cholesteryl esters (CEs), and exacerbates neuroinflammation in brain cells, including microglia. Targeting CEs and neuroinflammation could be a novel strategy to ameliorate -dependent phenotypes.

Placental serotonin is recognized as a key component of feto-placental physiology and can be influenced by environmental factors such as maternal diet, drugs, stress, and immune activation. In this study, we compared the contribution of placental and fetal sources to the maintenance of serotonin levels required for normal fetal development during ontogenetic dynamics. Our results demonstrated the leading role of the placenta at almost all stages of development.

Every 25th death worldwide is associated with liver pathology. The development of novel approaches to liver diseases therapy and protocols for maintaining the vital functions of patients on the liver transplant waiting list are urgently needed. Resident mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play a significant role in supporting liver tissue integrity and improve the liver condition after infusion.

Despite remarkable advances in the management of RA, there are still unmet needs that rheumatologists need to address. In this review, we focused on difficult-to-treat RA (D2T RA) and late-onset RA (LORA), and summarized their characteristics and management. The prevalence of D2T RA is reported to be 6-28% and many factors have been identified as risk factors for D2T RA, including female sex, long disease duration, seropositivity for rheumatoid factor and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody and their high titer, baseline high disease activity, and comorbidities.
