Fabricating ultrathin organic semiconductor nanostructures attracts wide attention towards integrated electronic and optoelectronic applications. However, the fabrication of ultrathin organic nanostructures with precise alignment, tunable morphology and high crystallinity for device integration remains challenging. Herein, an assembly technique for fabricating ultrathin organic single-crystal arrays with different sizes and shapes is achieved by confining the crystallization process in a sub-hundred nanometer space. The confined crystallization is realized by controlling the deformation of the elastic topographical templates with tunable applied pressures, which produces organic nanostructures with ordered crystallographic orientation and controllable thickness from less than 10 nm to ca. 1 μm. The generality is verified for patterning various typical solution-processable materials with long-range order and pure orientation, including organic small molecules, polymers, metal-halide perovskites and nanoparticles. It is anticipated that this technique with controlling the crystallization kinetics by the governable confined space could facilitate the electronic integration of organic semiconductors.

Developing a two-dimensional (2D) ultrathin metal-organic framework plays a significant role in energy conversion and storage systems. This work introduced a facile strategy for engineering ultrathin NiMn-MOF nanosheets on Ni foam (NF) via in situ conversion from NiMn-layered double hydroxide (LDH). The as-synthesized LDH-derived NiMn-MOF (LDH-D NiMn-MOF) nanosheet exhibited an overpotential of 350 mV to drive a current density of 100 mA cm during oxygen evolution reaction (OER) owing to its better redox activity, hierarchical architecture, and intercalating ability.

The widespread application of anode-free lithium metal batteries (AFLMBs) is hindered by the severe dendrite growth and side reactions due to the poor reversibility of Li plating/stripping. Herein, our study introduces an ultrathin interphase layer of covalent cage 3 (CC3) for highly reversible AFLMBs. The subnano triangular windows in CC3 serve as a Li sieve to accelerate Li desolvation and transport kinetics, inhibit electrolyte decomposition, and form LiF- and LiN-rich solid-electrolyte interphases.

The influence of the film/substrate interface and the role of film thickness on the structural transition temperature for thin films of the asymmetric BTBT derivative 7-decyl-2-phenyl[1]benzothieno[3,2-][1]-benzothiophene (Ph-BTBT-10) have been addressed by using Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) and synchrotron grazing incidence wide angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS). Our data strongly suggest that the structural transformation from a single-layer phase to the thermodynamically stable bilayer structure develops from the bottom of the film to its surface. Contrary to observations in other organic semiconductor films, notably, the thinner the Ph-BTBT-10 film, the lower is the transition temperature.

Membrane technology is an important component of resource recovery. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with inherent long-range ordered structure and permanent porosity are ideal materials for fabricating advanced membrane. Zwitterionic COFs have unique features beyond single ionic COFs containing anions or cations.
