Background And Hypothesis: For the rapidly growing population of older people living with schizophrenia (PLWS), psychological resilience, or the capacity to adapt to adversity, is an understudied target for improving health. Little is known about resilience and its longitudinal impact on outcomes among PLWS. This study assesses trajectories of resilience-related traits in PLWS and a nonpsychiatric comparison group (NCs) and longitudinal interactions between resilience and health.

With growing interest in using retinal and optic nerve biomarkers to diagnose neurodegenerative diseases, characterization of the velocity of normal retinal age-related changes will further our understanding. View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Hispanic/Latino communities in the US are rapidly growing and aging and are at two-fold risk of Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia's (ADRD) compared to non-Hispanic Whites. This additional risk could be, in part, due to increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Hispanics/Latinos also have higher rate of diabetes compared to non-Hispanic Whites and nearly 2 out of 5 individuals with diabetes go undiagnosed.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology occurs in the brain before manifestation of significant cognitive decline. Growing evidence suggests that brain networks such as default mode network (DMN) or salience network, identified through resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are affected by AD pathology. In this study, we investigated the relationship between network segregation and the key in vivo AD pathologies including beta-amyloid (Aβ) and tau deposition in old adults with no cognitive impairment.

Background: Growing evidence indicates that people with neurodegenerative diseases have altered metabolic status, but the association between metabolic age (MetAge), as assessed by circulating plasma metabolomics, and dementia remains unclear.
