Recently, we have shown that microparticles (MPs) levels derived from leukocytes (LMPs), endothelium (EMPs), neurons (NMPs) and those expressing tissue factor (TFMPs) were higher in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) patients when compared to cognitively healthy subjects. Therefore, in this study we proposed to investigate the correlation between MPs levels, cognitive performance and functional status in a sample of elderly individuals. We evaluated MPs derived from platelets (PMPs), LMPs, EMPs, NMPs and TFMPs in 43 participants, of whom 12 with probable dementia due to AD, 16 with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and 15 with no objective cognitive or functional impairment. PMPs, LMPs and TFMPs, were associated with cognitive impairment in this population. LMPs and NMP, were associated to lower functional performance in the elderly sample. These results suggest that MPs may be involved in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders.

We argue that "processes versus objects" is not a useful dichotomy. There is, instead, substantial theoretical utility in viewing "objects" and "processes" as complementary ways of describing persistence through time, and hence the possibility of observation and manipulation. This way of thinking highlights the role of memory as an essential resource for observation, and makes it clear that "memory" and "time" are also mutually inter-defined, complementary concepts.

Cerebral ischemic stroke, neuronal death, and inflammation bring difficulties in neuroprotection and rehabilitation. In this study, we developed and designed the ability of natural lactoferrin-polyethylene glycol-polyphenylalanine-baicalein nanomicelles (LF-PEG-PPhe-Bai) to target and reduce these pathological processes, such as neurological damage and cognitive impairment in the stages of poststroke. Nanomicelles made from biocompatible materials have improved bioavailability and targeted distribution to afflicted brain areas.

Background: Despite transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has demonstrated encouraging potential for modulating the circadian rhythm, little is known about how well and sustainably tDCS might improve the subjective sleep quality in older adults. This study sought to determine how tDCS affected sleep quality and cognition, as well as how well pre-treatment sleep quality predicted tDCS effects on domain-specific cognitive functions in patients with mild neurocognitive disorder due to Alzheimer's disease (NCD-AD).
Methods: This clinical trial aimed to compare the effectiveness of tDCS and cognitive training in mild NCD-AD patients (n = 201).
