To compare the measurement of proANP and proBNP in plasma for the diagnosis of heart failure. In the PubMed search, a process of combining subject headings and terms regarding comparison of natriuretic peptides (proANP and proBNP) was performed. 21 abstracts from research articles were screened with 14 articles assessed for eligibility. 11 papers were included for final analysis. We report comparable diagnostic accuracies of N-terminal proBNP and mid-regional proANP. Older methods for proANP measurement seem obsolete. Similar diagnostic performance of proANP and proBNP measurement for the diagnosis of heart failure was identified. Consequently, mid-regional proANP can be used when considering a diagnosis of heart failure.

Starting from the metabolic profile of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), we hypothesized that the mechanisms of ¹³¹I-induced cardiotoxicity differ between patients diagnosed with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) with/without T2DM, with metformin potentially acting as a cardioprotective agent by mitigating inflammation in patients with T2DM. To address this hypothesis, we quantified, using ELISA, the serum concentration of several key biomarkers that reflect cardiac injury (NT-proBNP, NT-proANP, ST2/IL-33R, and cTn I) in 74 female patients with DTC/-T2DM and 25 with DTC/+T2DM treated with metformin. All patients received a cumulative oral dose of I exceeding 150 mCi (5.

Objectives: Adrenomedullin (AM) and natriuretic peptide levels are elevated in pre-eclampsia. The aim of the present study was to determine AM and natriuretic peptide concentrations before 20 weeks of pregnancy in women who later developed gestational hypertension and in normal pregnancies.

Methods: 95 pregnant Caucasian women were included in the study.

Article Synopsis
  • Traditional cardiovascular biomarkers like hsTnT and NT-proBNP are crucial for monitoring cardiac function and prognosis in cancer patients, but newer biomarkers such as MR-proADM, copeptin, and MR-proANP may provide better predictive power.
  • A study involving 442 hospitalized cancer patients showed that while several biomarkers predicted all-cause mortality, only MR-proADM remained a significant independent predictor after adjusting for various factors.
  • MR-proADM demonstrated the highest predictive accuracy, with a specific cutoff of 0.94 nmol/L signaling a higher risk of mortality, particularly in older patients with advanced cancer stages and poorer overall health.

Elevated filling pressure of the left ventricle (LV) defines diastolic dysfunction. The gold standard for diagnosis is represented by the measurement of LV end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) during cardiac catheterization, but it has the disadvantage of being an invasive procedure. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between LVEDP and cardiac serum biomarkers such as natriuretic peptides (mid-regional pro-atrial natriuretic peptide [MR-proANP], B-type natriuretic peptide [BNP], and N-terminal prohormone BNP [NT-proBNP]), soluble ST2 (sST2), galectin-3 and mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proAMD).

Introduction/objectives: This study evaluated circulating amino-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), amino-terminal pro-A-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proANP), and cardiac troponin I (cTnI) concentrations in dogs with precapillary pulmonary hypertension (Pre-PH) and control dogs with respiratory clinical signs but no Pre-PH.

Animals: Twenty-six dogs (17 affected, and nine controls) were involved in the study.

Materials And Methods: This was a sub-study of a large prospective single-center observational study.
