Nanostructured photothermal membranes hold great potential for solar-driven seawater desalination; however, their pragmatic applications are often limited by substantial salt accumulation. To solve this issue, we have designed and prepared flexible and washable carbon-nanotube-embedded polyacrylonitrile nonwoven fabrics by a simple electrospinning route. The wet fabric exhibits a strong photoabsorption in a wide spectral range (350-2500 nm), and it has a photoabsorption efficiency of 90.8%. When coated onto a polystyrene foam, the fabric shows a high seawater evaporation rate of 1.44 kg m h under simulated sunlight irradiation (1.0 kW m). With a high concentration of simulated seawater as the model, the accumulation of solid salts can be clearly observed on the surface of the fabric, resulting in a severe decay of the evaporation rate. These salts can be effortlessly washed away from the fabric through a plain handwashing process. The washing process has a negligible influence on the morphology, photoabsorption, and evaporation performance of the fabric, demonstrating good durability. More importantly, a larger fabric can easily be fabricated, and the combination of washable fabrics with various parallel PS foams can facilitate the construction of large-scale outdoor evaporation devices, conferring the great potential for efficient desalination of seawater under natural sunlight.

Elastic conductive ink (ECI) can effectively balance the electromechanical properties of printed flexible electronics. It remains challenging to realize ECIs for direct printing on deformable porous substrates with complex textures, such as textiles, to form continuous and stable electrical paths. We engineered a self-adhesive ECI with high permeability and low diffusivity, achieving efficient electrode printing on a wide range of textiles with material and structure diversity.

Although the fiber-based triboelectric nanogenerator (F-TENG) has been recognized as one of the most promising flexible sensor systems, it is facing a challenge of balancing the performance and the processing scalability. Herein, we develop a hierarchical coaxial F-TENG possessing PU layer, Ag layer, and PA layer from the core to the outer part by an efficient and straightforward two-step braiding method. Owning a small diameter of 1 mm, the F-TENG presents a high linear sensing response, a wide working range of 5 to 150 kPa, and a quick reaction speed of around 200 ms.

Smart fibers capable of integrating the multifunctionality of actuation and self-sensation into a single proprioceptive device have significant applications in soft robots and biomedicine. Especially, the achievement of self-sensing the movement patterns of different actuating segments in one fiber is still a great challenge. Herein, in this study, a fiber with the controllable Janus architecture is successfully proposed via an artful centrifugation-driven hierarchical gradient self-assembly strategy, which couples two functional components of piezoresistive carbon nanotubes and magnetic NdFeB nanoparticles into the upper and lower layers of this flexible fibrous framework with the porous sponge structure partially, respectively.

Neurostimulation delivers electrical pulses to modulate neuromuscular activity. Commonly used in medical interventions from pain relief to rehabilitation, neurostimulation typically uses manually placed hydrogel electrodes over the treated region. However, this method limits interventions requiring frequent, long-term daily use.

The quality of the electrocardiography (ECG) signals depends on the effectiveness of the electrode-skin connection. However, current electrocardiogram electrodes (ECGE) often face challenges such as high contact impedance and unstable conductive networks, which hinder accurate measurement during movement and long-term wearability. Herein, in this work, a bionic 3D pile textile as an ECGE with high electrical conductivity and flexibility is prepared by a facile, continuous, and high-efficiency electrostatic self-assembly process.
