Light can couple between two orthogonally polarized whispering-gallery modes of a microresonator; the effect is easily observable when those modes are frequency degenerate, and can result in coupled-mode induced transparency (CMIT). Experimental observations of CMIT show that the cross-polarization coupling (CPC) strength is typically 10-10 per round trip. It is shown in this Letter that polarization rotation resulting from optical spin-orbit interaction through the experimentally realistic asymmetry of a microresonator about its equator can produce CPC with strengths in the same range as observed in experiments.

This communication presents an ultra-miniaturized two-way frequency tunable antenna diplexer based on cavity-backed slots and dielectric fluids. The proposed antenna utilizes two half-mode substrate-integrated rectangular cavities loaded with slots and fluidic pockets. The conventional size reduction is achieved by employing half-mode cavities, whereas ultra-miniaturization is obtained by applying the slots, which provides additional capacitive loading.

Hyperpolarization derived from water protons enhances the NMR signal of N nuclei in a small molecule, enabling the sensitive detection of a protein-ligand interaction. The water hyperpolarized by dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (D-DNP) acts as a universal signal enhancement agent. The N signal of benzamidine was increased by 1480-fold through continuous polarization transfer by -coupling-mediated cross-polarization (-CP) via the exchangeable protons.

Spin polarization in chiral molecules is a magnetic molecular response associated with electron transport and enantioselective bond polarization that occurs even in the absence of an external magnetic field. An unexpected finding by Santos and co-workers reported enantiospecific NMR responses in solid-state cross-polarization (CP) experiments, suggesting a possible additional contribution to the indirect nuclear spin-spin coupling in chiral molecules induced by bond polarization in the presence of spin-orbit coupling. Herein we provide a theoretical treatment for this phenomenon, presenting an effective spin-Hamiltonian for helical molecules like DNA and density functional theory (DFT) results on amino acids that confirm the dependence of J-couplings on the choice of enantiomer.
