We present the experimental data on the direct measurements of spatial distribution of the terahertz (THz) pulse intensity profile using a commercial silicon-based charge-coupled device (CCD) camera in the spectral range from 1-3 THz. A method to measure the dimensions of a high-intensity THz radiation beam in the focal plane using the CCD camera is proposed and experimentally verified.

Inflammation detection in blood serum samples is commonly performed using clinical analyzers, which are expensive and complex and require specific labels or markers. Spectrochemical analytical techniques, such as laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), have emerged as alternative methods for qualitative and non-destructive analysis in various fields. This study explores applying LIBS and LIF techniques for label-free discrimination between normal and inflammatory blood serum samples.

Deep-DPC: Deep learning-assisted label-free temporal imaging discovery of anti-fibrotic compounds by controlling cell morphology.

J Adv Res

February 2025

State Key Laboratory of Natural Medicines, China Pharmaceutical University, No. 639 Longmian Dadao, Nanjing 211198, China. Electronic address:

Introduction: Fibrosis can damage the normal function of many organs, such as cardiac function, for which no effective clinical therapies exist. However, traditional approaches to anti-fibrosis drug discovery have primarily focused on the final biological indicators, often overlooking the dynamic morphological changes during fibrosis progression. Here, we present a novel approach, deep-DPC, which integrates label-free, time-series digital phase contrast (DPC) imaging with cell morphology analysis and unsupervised machine learning to dynamically control and monitor cell morphology.

Angularly resolved spectral reconstruction of x rays via filter pack attenuation.

Rev Sci Instrum

February 2025

Gérard Mourou Center for Ultrafast Optical Science, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109-2099, USA.

We have designed a new filter pack array to measure angular variations in x-ray spectra during a single shot. The filter pack was composed of repeating identical columns of aluminum and copper filters of varying thicknesses. These columns were located at different positions to measure the spectrum at each corresponding angle.

A novel, portable chemiluminescence (CL) sensing platform powered by deep learning and smartphone integration has been developed for cost-effective and selective glucose detection. This platform features low-cost, wax-printed micro-pads (WPµ-pads) on paper-based substrates used to construct a miniaturized CL sensor. A 3D-printed black box serves as a compact WPµ-pad sensing chamber, replacing traditional bulky equipment, such as charge coupled device (CCD) cameras and optical sensors.

Ultrafast diagnostic technology has caused breakthroughs in fields such as inertial confinement fusion, particle accelerator research, and laser-induced phenomena. As the most widely used tool for ultrafast diagnostic technology, investigating the characteristics of streak cameras in the imaging process and streak tubes' complex physical processes is significant for its overall development. In this work, the imaging process of a streak camera is modeled and simulated using Geant4-based Monte Carlo simulations.
