This paper purports to use a meta-analysis to compare the postoperative quality of life (QoL) and nutritional status of between Roux-en-Y (R-Y) and Billroth-I (B-I) reconstruction after distal gastrectomy. For this study, the following databases were searched for articles published from inception until December 2018: PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, and Cochrane library. A total of 13 eligible studies, covering 3645 patients, were selected for a meta-analysis. The analysis showed that compared with B-I group in term of short-term outcomes, patients undergoing R-Y reconstruction did not only have significantly better physiological function ( = 0.02), but had significantly less pain ( = 0.04). In the long-term outcomes, the dyspnea and constipation in the B-I group were worse than that in the R-Y group ( = 0.004; = 0.04, respectively). Patients in the B-I group had higher cholesterol than those in the R-Y group at 5 years postoperatively ( = 0.003). There were no significant differences in termof other nutritional indicators including total protein, cholesterol, albumin, hemoglobin and weight in short-term outcomes. The final conclusion was that R-Y may be superior to the B-I reconstruction in some aspects of QoL. Besides, R-Y reconstruction could reduce the patient's cholesterol level for a long time. For the short-term outcomes, there were no significant differences in other common nutritional indicators.

Methods: We analyzed (by the PCR method) the gene expression of key sphingolipid metabolism enzymes (sphingomyelinases (SMPD1 and SMPD3), acid ceramidase (ASAH1), ceramide synthases (CERS 1-6), sphingosine kinase1 (SPHK1), sphingosine-1-phosphate lyase 1 (SGPL1), and sphingosine-1-phosphate receptors (S1PR1, S1PR2, and S1PR3)) and the content of subspecies of ceramides, sphingosine, and sphingosine-1-phosphate in seven patients with PABC after chemotherapy and eight healthy pregnant women as a control group.
Results: We found a significant increase in the expression of genes of acid ceramidase (ASAH1), sphingosine-1-phosphate lyase 1 (SGPL1), sphingosine kinase (SPHK1), and ceramide synthases (CERS 1-3, 5, 6) in the samples of patients with PABC during their treatment with cytostatic chemotherapy.

Several studies have used Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) to assess chemical and structural changes caused by diagenesis in archaeological human bone, whereas other factors such as individual's biological profile (sex and age) or the type of bone have seldom been considered. In this study transmission FTIR was applied to 51 bone samples from 19 post-Roman individuals of A Lanzada necropolis (NW Spain). Mid-infrared (MIR) indices (IRSF, MMI, C/P, C/C, Am/P, BPI, API, AmI/AmII) were also calculated and principal component analysis (PCA) was used to explore peak ratios and differences across the whole spectrum.
