Objective: To explore the high-risk fault risk of CT simulator and the main causes of the risk, and to put forward effective risk management strategies.

Methods: The failure mode and effect analysis method was used to identify and control the operational fault risk of CT simulator.

Results: 5 major fault components, 8 fault failure models and 17 failure causes were analyzed. The top 5 failure causes are:anode target surface burn caused by direct scanning without warming up the tube (590.4), tube failure (518.2), burnout of joints caused by aging of high voltage cables (424.2), motor carbon brush wear (304.8) and belt break (296.4).

Conclusions: The failure mode and effect analysis method can effectively identify the risk of equipment failure, and thus specifically formulate risk management and control measures to ensure the normal operation of equipment and the safety of doctors and patients.

Assessment of the hazard risks on HVDC transmission networks due to lightning strikes and faults.

PLoS One

December 2024

Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Shoubra, Benha University, Cairo, Egypt.

Article Synopsis
  • - HVDC systems effectively lower electricity transmission losses over long distances but face high failure risks from faults and lightning, necessitating a detailed study of potential impacts in the Egypt-Saudi Arabia link using a transient circuit model.
  • - The study evaluates how different lightning strike locations affect transient overvoltages, especially at the rectifier station, revealing extreme voltages during significant lightning events and noting a substantial reduction in overvoltages with surge arresters.
  • - Findings indicate that DC pole-to-ground faults pose a significant risk, producing large overcurrents that can potentially damage the rectifier station, highlighting the importance of robust fault analysis for maintaining safe electrical production standards.

The uranium mines both developed and abandoned appear to be one of the most significant sources of radon exhalation in the world. Therefore, the study of radon exposure of the population in the areas around rehabilitated uranium mines is very important. This article presents the results of the radon release studies at the rehabilitated Beshtaugorsky uranium mine site, which is now used by local people for hiking and picnicking.

Differences in injury severities between elderly and non-elderly taxi driver at-fault crashes: Temporal instability and out-of-sample prediction.

Accid Anal Prev

December 2024

Cho Chun Shik Graduate School of Mobility, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, 193 Munji-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon 34051, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The elderly population in Seoul increased from 1.4 million to 1.7 million between 2018 and 2023, and there is a notable rise in elderly taxi drivers, leading to more safety concerns due to increased fatal and severe injury crashes linked to them.
  • A study aimed to investigate the stability of factors affecting at-fault crash injury severity among elderly and non-elderly taxi drivers over time, utilizing data from 2017 to 2023 in Seoul.
  • Risk factors such as late-night driving, dry roads, traffic signal violations, and higher speed limits were identified as significantly increasing the likelihood of severe crashes, with the presence of elderly not-at-fault drivers greatly elevating crash severity when involved with

Landscapes are shaped by tectonic, climatic, and surface processes over geological timescales, but we rarely witness the events of marked landscape change. The moment magnitude 7.5 Noto Peninsula earthquake in central Japan was caused by a large thrust faulting, up to nearly 10 meters of slip, that expanded more than 150 kilometers along the fault zone.

Reliability analysis of subsea control system using FMEA and FFTA.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group, Xuzhou, 221004, China.

Reliability technology plays a significant role in ensuring the safe operation of the subsea control system. To perform a comprehensive analysis of the reliability of complex systems, a combination of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fuzzy Fault Tree Approach (FFTA) is introduced. Firstly, the FMEA method is used to analyze the potential failure modes and causes of system failure by completing the qualitative analysis of system reliability from the perspective of multi-factor failure modes.
