Solvated two-dimensional nanosheets of copper hydroxy dodecylsulfate in 1-butanol react with thiourea under microwave irradiation to yield surfactant-free porous aggregates of CuS nanoparticles. These aggregates exhibit excellent photocatalytic activity toward degradation of methylene blue, methyl orange, and 4-chlorophenol in natural sunlight. While the high surface area (14.74 m g) and porosity increase the active reaction centers for adsorption and degradation of organic molecules, quantum confinement results in a low recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Chemical and photogenerated hydroxyl radicals cause the oxidation of the dyes and 4-chlorophenol.

This study explores the innovative potential of native lignin as a sustainable biopolyol for synthesizing polyurethane aerogels with variable microstructures, significant specific surface areas, and high mechanical stability. Three types of lignin-Organosolv, Aquasolv, and Soda lignin-were evaluated based on structural characteristics, Klason lignin content, and particle size, with Organosolv lignin being identified as the optimal candidate. The microstructure of lignin polyurethane samples was adjustable by solvent choice: Gelation in DMSO and pyridine, with high affinity to lignin, resulted in dense materials with low specific surface areas, while the use of the low-affinity solvent e.

Addressing mandibular defects poses a significant challenge in maxillofacial surgery. Recent advancements have led to the development of various biomimetic composite scaffolds aimed at facilitating mandibular defect reconstruction. This study aimed to assess the regenerative potential of a novel composite scaffold consisting of polylactic acid (PLA), hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (n-HA), gelatin, hesperidin, and human dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) in a rat model of mandibular bone defect.

Human induced pluripotent stem cell derived hepatocytes (hiPSC-heps) hold promising value for acute liver failure (ALF) treatment, while their therapeutic efficacy is usually limited by low cell bioactivity and untargeted in vivo accumulation. Here, inspired by vascularity supporting cellular architectures in the tissues and organs, a novel vascularized hiPSC-heps spheroid based on microfluidic microcapsules is presented for liver repair via orthotopic transplantation. The microcapsules are comprised of aqueous cores that facilitate hiPSC-hep aggregating into spheroids, and hybrid hydrogel shells of sodium alginate and hyaluronic acid methacryloyl (HAMA).

Carbon sequestration in deep saline aquifers is a promising strategy for reducing atmospheric CO emissions. However, salt precipitation triggered by the evaporation of formation brine into injected supercritical CO can cause injectivity and containment issues in near-wellbore regions. Predicting the distribution of precipitated salts and their impact on near-wellbore properties remains challenging.

It is a great challenge to depict the evolution process of soil-nanomaterials micro-interfaces during soil remediation. A novel biochar loaded nano zero-valent iron (BC-nZVI) reactor with low density, high reactivity and suitable magnetism was prepared using the method we established. Fe nanoparticles (NPs) with the size <10 nm uniformly embedded in a layer of porous carbon networks, which attached firmly in the pores and outer surface of biochars.
