Rhodium (Rh) is the most expensive platinum group metal (PGM) and is of great industrial importance. Although the recycling of PGMs from secondary sources is in high demand, the preferential and selective separation of Rh from PGM mixtures remains a great challenge. Here, a selective Rh separation method involving the precipitation of Rh from an HCl solution containing palladium (Pd), platinum (Pt), and Rh is reported. 4-Butylaniline and 4-hexylaniline were used as precipitants for Rh, and selective Rh precipitation was achieved at high HCl concentrations. We revealed that Rh in HCl selectively forms a unique and highly stable ion-pair complex comprising [RhCl]/anilinium/chloride ions in a 1:6:3 ratio. The formation and high stability of the Rh complex were found to play important roles in the selective recovery of Rh from PGM mixtures.

Globally, drug-impaired driving fatalities now exceed those from drunk driving, urging the need for on-site and roadside detection methods. In this study, a photothermal desorption and reagent-assisted low-temperature plasma ionization miniature ion trap mass spectrometer (PDRA-LTP-ITMS) was developed for on-site detection of drug-impaired driving. The pseudomultiple reaction monitoring (MRM) in PDRA-LTP-ITMS enables continuous ion selection during ion introduction and improved sensitivity to nearly 3-fold compared with the conventional full scan mode.

Preparation of a 6FDA-DAM/ODA Mixed Matrix Membrane Doped with MOFs and Its Application in Gas Separation.

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) can significantly improve gas separation performance, but the type and state of the filler in the membrane matrix are key indicators for the development of MMMs. Therefore, in this work, 6FDA-DAM/ODA (1:1), metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different particle sizes (UiO-66 and UiO-66-NH) were synthesized, and then MOFs were doped into 6FDA-DAM/ODA to prepare MMMs. The effects of the dopant materials and their particle sizes on the gas separation performance of the membranes were investigated by testing the permeability of the MMMs to H, CO, CH, and N.

Ion exchange membranes (IEMs) are permselective membranes that, in principle, only allow the flow of ions with a specific charge sign, opposite to that of the fixed membrane ionic groups (counter-ions). This charge-based selectivity, like the size-based selectivity of classic semipermeable membranes, leads to an uneven distribution of permeating ions on the two sides of the membrane, which allows for ion separation or recovery in various processes in industry or environmental protection. Here, we apply the principles of mass balance, charge neutrality, and equality of electrochemical potentials in the state of thermodynamic equilibrium to provide a simple method for estimating the Gibbs-Donnan factors and the equilibrium concentrations of permeating ions in two compartments separated by an ideal IEM, i.

Background: Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is overtreated, in part because of inability to predict which DCIS cases diagnosed at core needle biopsy (CNB) will be upstaged at excision. This study aimed to determine whether quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features can identify DCIS at risk of upstaging to invasive cancer.

Methods: This prospective observational clinical trial analyzed women with a diagnosis of DCIS on CNB.
