Article Abstract
Graphene of two different aspect ratios, , was melt mixed with poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) to form amorphous PET/graphene composites with less than 5% crystallinity. The higher-order structure and mechanical properties of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) in these composites were investigated using techniques such as differential scanning calorimetry and dynamic mechanical analysis, whereas transmission electron microscopy, melt rheology, and electrical conductivity were used to study the graphene dispersion. A decrease in heat capacity changes, Δ , of PET in nanocomposites at the glass transition temperature, , without change suggests that a rigid amorphous fraction (RAF) of PET was formed at the PET/graphene interface. The stiffening effect of graphene below 1 wt % loading is quite small in the glassy state region and independent of the of graphene. Above 2 wt %, graphene forms a mechanical percolation network with the RAF of PET and the PET chains are geometrically restricted by the incorporation of graphene with a high , resulting in an unexpectedly higher modulus of nanocomposites both below and above .

As an essential regulator of higher-order chromatin structures, CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF) is a highly conserved protein with a central DNA-binding domain of 11 tandem zinc fingers (ZFs), which are flanked by amino (N-) and carboxy (C-) terminal domains of intrinsically disordered regions. Here we report that CRISPR deletion of the entire C-terminal domain of alternating charge blocks decreases CTCF DNA binding but deletion of the C-terminal fragment of 116 amino acids results in increased CTCF DNA binding and aberrant gene regulation. Through a series of genetic targeting experiments, in conjunction with electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA), circularized chromosome conformation capture (4C), qPCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation with sequencing (ChIP-seq), and assay for transposase-accessible chromatin with sequencing (ATAC-seq), we uncovered a negatively charged region (NCR) responsible for weakening CTCF DNA binding and chromatin accessibility.

Tau pathology is a hallmark of several neurodegenerative diseases, including frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease. However, the sequence of events and the form of tau that confers toxicity are still unclear, due in large part to the lack of physiological models of tauopathy initiation and progression in which to test hypotheses. We make absolute frequency measurements of Cs Rydberg transitions, |6S_{1/2},F=3⟩→|nS_{1/2}(n=23-90)⟩ and |nD_{3/2,5/2}(n=21-90)⟩, with an accuracy of less than 72 kHz. The quantum defect parameters for the measured Rydberg series are the most precise obtained to date. The quantum defect series is terminated at δ_{4}, showing that prior fits requiring higher order quantum defects reflect uncertainties in the observations.
