The first synthesis, isolation, and characterization of permidin-2-ylidene complexes of Pd(II) is reported with entry resulting from either a direct reaction with isolable six-membered N-heterocyclic carbene or from the enetetramine, arising from dimerization of the carbene. Furthermore, a simplified method to prepare N,N'-disubstituted perimidinium bromide salts, precursors to 1,3-disubstituted perimidin-2-ylidene, was achieved using ammonium bromide as a source of weak acid. Through synthesis and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis of a carbene-phosphinidine adduct, an interrogation of the fundamental π-bonding ability of 1,3-diisopropylperimidin-2-ylidene revealed this interaction to be weak and of a similar order to unsaturated imidazol-2-ylidenes.

A series of heterogeneous catalysts, designated as POP-n-Pd (where n = 1, 2, 3, or 4), were synthesized by polymerizing a six-membered N-heterocyclic compound with an alkyl substituted group monomer (S1), using divinylbenzene (DVB) as crosslinkers. This process was followed by the incorporation of palladium (Pd) nanoparticles. The impact of the substituted group and the S1:DVB ratio in the catalysts, together with the reaction conditions, was investigated to assess their influence on the catalytic performance in converting propylamine, carbon dioxide (CO) and 4-iodoanisole to oxazolidinones.

There are many different applications of heterocyclic molecules in the pharmaceutical and materials science fields, which make them an important family of compounds. Among these heterocyclic compounds, nitrogen-containing heterocyclic (N-heterocyclic) compounds have attracted a lot of interest among researchers due to their various applications across a wide variety of fields. Many studies have been performed over the past few years to study the synthesis of N-heterocycles under different reaction conditions, such as solvent-free, catalytic, reactants immobilized on a solid support, one-pot synthesis, and microwave irradiation.

Despite the relevance of the reactions of the prototypical nitrogen-containing six-membered aromatic molecule (N-heterocyclic) of pyridine (CHN) in environmental science, astrochemistry, planetary science, prebiotic chemistry, and materials science, few experimental/theoretical studies exist on the bimolecular reactions involving pyridine and neutral atomic/molecular radicals. We report a combined experimental and theoretical study on the elementary reaction of pyridine with excited nitrogen atoms, N(D), aimed at providing information about the primary reaction products and their branching fractions (BFs). From previous crossed molecular beam (CMB) experiments with mass-spectrometric detection and present synergistic calculations of the reactive potential energy surface (PES) and product BFs we have unveiled the reaction mechanism.

According to the green development requirements of carbon neutrality and carbon peaking, the effective separation of lanthanides and actinides is one of the key factors for nuclear energy to become a sustainable energy source. In recent years, o-phenanthroline-based ligands have been proven to be effective in the separation of lanthanides and actinides. In this work, based on 5,9b-dihydro-4aH-cyclopenta[1,2-b:5,4-b']dipyridines, we designed six N-heterocyclic ring ligands and theoretically studied their extraction capacity and separation selectivity for the Am(III) and Eu(III) ions.

First row transition metal complexes have attracted attention as abundant and affordable electrocatalysts for CO reduction. Manganese complexes bearing bis-N-heterocyclic carbene ligands defining 6-membered ring metallacycles have proven to reduce CO to CO selectively at very high rates. Herein, we report the synthesis of manganese carbonyl complexes supported by a rigid ortho-phenylene bridged bis-N-heterocyclic carbene ligand (ortho-phenylene-bis(N-methylimidazol-2-ylidene), Ph-bis-mim), which defines a 7-membered ring metallacycle.
