The removal possibility of sorbed Cs from weathered biotite (WB), which is considered a major Cs adsorbent in the soil of Fukushima, has been investigated by the addition of an NaCl-CaCl mixed salt powder with a 1:1 ratio of Na and Ca and subsequent heat treatment under a reduced pressure of 14 Pa. X-ray fluorescence analysis was used to determine the Cs removal rate at elevated temperatures. The structural changes and new phases formed were determined using powder X-ray diffraction as well as electron diffraction and X-ray microanalysis in a transmission electron microscope. We found that Cs was completely removed from the specimen heated at 700 °C, where WB completely decomposed and augite was formed. On the basis of this finding, we propose the Cs-free mineralization method as a new soil-decontamination process in which Cs minerals are transformed by heating with certain additives into minerals that cannot incorporate Cs.

Hydroxyapatite (HA) is widely used as a bone graft. However, information on the head-to-head osteoinductivity and in vivo performance of micro- and nanosized natural and synthetic HA is still lacking. Here, we fabricated nanosized bovine HA (nanoBHA) by using a wet ball milling method and compared its in vitro and in vivo performance with microsized BHA, nanosized synthetic HA (nanoHA), and microsized synthetic HA (HA).

Context: Trabecular bone score (TBS), a gray-level texture index derived from lumbar spine (LS) dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans, is decreased in patients with diabetes and is associated with increased fracture risk, independent of areal bone mineral density (aBMD), but potentially influenced by abdominal fat tissue.
Objective: Evaluate effect of romosozumab (210 mg monthly) for 12 months followed by alendronate (70 mg weekly) for 24 months vs alendronate alone (70 mg weekly) for 36 months on LS aBMD and TBS in women with type 2 diabetes (T2D) enrolled in the ARCH study.
Methods: This post hoc analysis included women from ARCH who had T2D at baseline and LS DXA scans at baseline and ≥1 postbaseline visit (romosozumab-to-alendronate, n = 165; alendronate-to-alendronate, n = 195).

Objectives: To evaluate the value of ultrasound (US) and shear wave velocity (SWV) to assess muscle in postmenopausal women with osteosarcopenia (OSP).
Methods: This study included 145 postmenopausal women, comprising 115 osteopenia/osteoporosis participants without sarcopenia (OP alone) and 30 OSP participants. All received the evaluation of bone mineral density (BMD), appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI), handgrip strength, calf circumference, 6-meter walking speed, and 5-time chair stand test.

As a typical ecologically fragile area, the Wudong Coal Mine region in Xinjiang generates large accumulations of coal gangue each year, which, in the alkaline soil environment, can easily lead to significant leaching and accumulation of As. This study developed a stabilizer (CFD) using cement, fly ash, and desulfurized gypsum to modify in-situ soil in the Xinjiang mining area, resulting in a modified solidified soil with excellent geotechnical performance and As stabilization capability. The study results showed that when CFD content exceeded 14.

The high-efficiency ball milling treatment technology primarily combines the excitation of oxidation processes with high-speed physical collisions, thereby promoting the reaction processes and enhancing the degradation effectiveness of materials. This technology has gained widespread attention in recent years for its application in the degradation of organic solid chemical pollutants. In this study, quantum chemical density functional theory (DFT) was employed to first analyze the impact of electron addition and subtraction on molecular chemical bonds.
