Article Abstract

: The current study aims to examine the reliability and validity of the Adult Hope Scale among older adults with and without cognitive impairment who were recently admitted to a nursing home.: Sixty-four recently admitted nursing home residents, 32 of whom had cognitive impairment, were administered the Adult Hope Scale and measures of concurrent and divergent validity.: In this sample, the Adult Hope Scale demonstrated good to excellent reliability. The Adult Hope Scale also correlated as expected with measures of concurrent and divergent validity, thus supporting the validity of the scale to measure hope in older adults despite level of cognitive functioning.: This study shows that the Adult Hope Scale is a reliable and valid measure of hope in this sample of older adults with and without cognitive impairment who were recently admitted to a nursing home. Given the small sample size, additional research on the psychometric properties of the utility of the Adult Hope Scale in older adults with and without cognitive impairment is warranted.: These preliminary findings allow future researchers and clinicians to consider administration of the Adult Hope Scale to individuals with and without cognitive impairment living in long-term care facilities. Gathering additional data on the psychometrics of this measure will enable new directions in research involving self-report measures for older adults with cognitive impairment, and in the development of interventions involving hope to improve physical and mental health in long-term care residents.

Despite the success of the CD19xCD3 T cell engager blinatumomab in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), treatment failure is common and can manifest with antigen loss and extramedullary disease (EMD) relapse. To understand the impact of leukemia genetics on outcomes, we reviewed 267 adult patients with B-ALL treated with blinatumomab and used next generation sequencing to identify molecular alterations. Patients received blinatumomab for relapsed/refractory (R/R) disease (n=150), minimal residual disease (MRD+) (n=88), upfront as induction (n=10), or as consolidation in MRD- state (n=19).

Background: Patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) experience emotional distress and limited supportive care access. This study assesses a mindfulness app's feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy in improving emotional symptoms, trait mindfulness, and overall quality of life for patients with mRCC on immunotherapy.

Methods: This multinational study recruited patients with mRCC undergoing immunotherapy from Brazil and the United States.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), congestive heart failure (CHF), and acute pulmonary edema (APE) are serious illnesses that often require acute care from prehospital emergency medical services (EMSs). These respiratory diseases that cause acute respiratory failure (ARF) are one of the main reasons for hospitalization and death, generating high health care costs. The prevalence of the main respiratory diseases treated in a prehospital environment in the prepandemic period and during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain is unknown.

Pathological diagnosis of central nervous system tumours in adults: what's new?

Pathology

December 2024

Department of Pathology, Amsterdam University Medical Centers/VUmc, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology, Utrecht, The Netherlands.

In the course of the last decade, the pathological diagnosis of many tumours of the central nervous system (CNS) has transitioned from a purely histological to a combined histological and molecular approach, resulting in a more precise 'histomolecular diagnosis'. Unfortunately, translation of this refinement in CNS tumour diagnostics into more effective treatment strategies is lagging behind. There is hope though that incorporating the assessment of predictive markers in the pathological evaluation of CNS tumours will help to improve this situation.

Introduction/objectives: Patients returning to the community from incarceration (ie, reentry) are at heightened risk of experiencing trauma when interacting with the healthcare system. Healthcare professionals may not recognize patients' trauma reactions or know how to effectively respond. This paper describes the development and pilot evaluation of a single-session training to prepare primary care teams to deliver trauma-informed care (TIC) to patients experiencing reentry.
