We demonstrate label-free detection of low glucose concentration based on whispery gallery mode resonance in an optofluidic microcapillary (OFMC) biosensor. The wall surface of the OFMC is bio-chemically functionalized to detect cellular-level glucose concentration as low as 2.78 mM. The measured sensitivity is 0.966 pm/mM. The fabricated microcapillary has a thin wall thickness of 2 μm and a Q factor of 1.3 × 10, corresponding to a bulk refractive index sensitivity of 23.36 nm/RIU. The OFMC biosensor has advantages such as high resistance to environmental perturbation, small sample volume down to 90 nL and cost-effectiveness. Theoretical analysis shows the sensor sensitivity depends on the microcapillary wall thickness and liquid core refractive index.

Background Tooth loss can impair masticatory function and may subsequently result in malnutrition. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with controlling nutritional status (CONUT) scores, which assess malnutrition risk, in patients with removable dentures. Materials and methods In this cross-sectional study, data were obtained from a consecutive sampling of 192 patients (mean age 72.

Various hydrogels have been explored to create minimally invasive microneedles (MNs) to extract interstitial fluid (ISF). However, current methods are time-consuming and typically require 10-15 min to extract 3-5 mg of ISF. This study introduces two spiral-shaped swellable MN arrays: one made of gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and the other incorporating a combination of PVA, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and hyaluronic acid (HA) for fast ISF extraction.

Iron overload increases fasting blood glucose level in mice, leading to insulin insensitivity. However, no such relationship has been shown in the population. The relationship between whole blood iron levels and fasting blood glucose levels remained unclear.

Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is common in the digestive and central nervous systems and can infect the entire digestive tract from the mouth to the rectum. In immunocompromised patients, CMV infection is prone to develop into CMV disease, especially in Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) patients. Severe cases may accelerate the progression of AIDS patients and form systemic CMV infection.

The objective of this study was to explore if the time of day (AM vs PM) resistance exercise is performed influences glucose and insulin concentrations, body composition, and muscular strength in adults with prediabetes. A secondary data analysis was conducted using data from the "Resist Diabetes" study, a phase II exercise intervention. Participants (Age:59.
