A 59-year-old man presented with confusion, decreased level of consciousness, and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. He was intubated and promptly stabilized on antiepileptic medications. He was not in status epilepticus. He improved after seizure control, though he remained confused. He was neither acutely intoxicated nor were there any substance withdrawal concerns prior to his presentation. Furthermore, no metabolic, electrolyte, or nutritional perturbations were identified. He did, however, have a history of alcoholic hepatitis and was awaiting a liver transplant, but his blood work did not reveal evidence of fulminant hepatic failure at presentation (international normalized ratio - 1.17, platelet count 161,000/µL, ammonia 18 µmol/L, blood urea nitrogen 4.5 mmol/L, and his liver enzymes were only remarkable for an elevated alkaline phosphatase of 143 U/L).

Evaluating tissue microstructure and membrane integrity in the living human brain through diffusion-water exchange imaging is challenging due to requirements for a high signal-to-noise ratio and short diffusion times dictated by relatively fast exchange processes. The goal of this work was to demonstrate the feasibility of imaging of tissue micro-geometries and water exchange within the brain gray matter using the state-of-the-art Connectome 2.0 scanner equipped with an ultra-high-performance gradient system (maximum gradient strength=500 mT/m, maximum slew rate=600 T/m/s).

Deep learning-based cortical surface reconstruction (CSR) methods heavily rely on pseudo ground truth (pGT) generated by conventional CSR pipelines as supervision, leading to dataset-specific challenges and lengthy training data preparation. We propose a new approach for reconstructing multiple cortical surfaces using from brain MRI ribbon segmentations. Our approach initializes a midthickness surface and then deforms it inward and outward to form the inner (white matter) and outer (pial) cortical surfaces, respectively, by jointly learning diffeomorphic flows to align the surfaces with the boundaries of the cortical ribbon segmentation maps.

Multinodular and vacuolating neuronal tumors (MVNTs) of the cerebrum are rare, seizure-related, low-grade tumors of the central nervous system that usually affect young adults. The design and characterization of thin-film ribbon cables as electrical interconnects for implanted neural stimulation and recording devices are reported. Our goal is to develop flexible and extensible ribbon cables that integrate with thin-film, cortical penetrating microelectrode arrays (MEAs).
