Intertidal microhabitats provide special conditions to the organisms that inhabit them and to some of their morpho-protective characteristics. Tidal pools, under the influence of acidified freshwater, may affect the characteristics of the protective shells of prey and have repercussions on predation. The shells of Perumytilus purpuratus from such tidepools are more fragile than those of their counterparts from the vertical intertidal walls of the same area.

High-pressure treatment was utilized in this study to produce high-quality, reduced-sodium pork gels with desirable texture and sensory properties, addressing the challenge of maintaining quality in low-sodium meat products to meet health-conscious consumer demands. High-pressure treatment applied within the range of 150-200 MPa significantly reduced cooking loss while maintaining moisture content and provided an ideal network structure for reduced-sodium pork gels. High-pressure treatment at up to 100-200 MPa, in combination with added sodium chloride and sodium polyphosphate, was evaluated for its effects on gel texture, with results indicating that high-pressure treatment significantly improved breaking stress (increased by 10.

Herbal dust, a waste byproduct from filter-tea production, was annealed to form ash that can be incorporated into natural rubber as an eco-friendly filler. Three types of herbal dust ash (HDA), green tea, hibiscus, and lemon balm, were added at two different contents, 2.5 and 5 phr, into the rubber compound, while the content of carbon black, as a filler, was maintained at 50 phr in all samples.

The natural and laboratory-accelerated weathering of wood-plastic composites (WPCs) based on high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) plastics was investigated in this study. Injection molded samples of WPCs with different loadings of wood fiber ranging from 0 to 36 wt.% of wood were subjected to laboratory-accelerated weathering and natural weathering.

Background/objectives: Films in the mouth offer a promising alternative drug delivery system for oral administration, with several advantages over traditional oral formulations. Furthermore, their non-invasive nature and easy administration make them conducive to increasing patient compliance. The use of active agents in these films can further improve their drug delivery properties, making them an even more useful drug delivery system.
