Antioxidants present in food can act as a protective factor against the development of colorectal cancer (CRC) by reducing the development of aberrant crypt foci (ACF). This study aimed to analyze the effects of supplementation with juçara fruit pulp on the number of ACF and the SOD1 expression in an experimental model of CRC. Colorectal carcinogenesis was induced with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) in 16 young female rats () given a diet supplemented with either juçara fruit pulp (DMH+/juçara+) or control (DMH+/juçara-). Five animals were used as a negative control (DMH-/juçara-). The (DMH+/juçara+) group received 14 days of supplementation (100 ml/animal/day) at 2-day intervals for 1 month. The number of ACF, area of positive staining for SOD1, and SOD1 expression score were evaluated. The (DMH+/juçara+) group presented a lower number of ACF, ACF > 3 crypts, and greater SOD1 expression in the colorectal mucosa. Based on the reduction in the number of lesions and possible positive impact on antioxidant enzymes, juçara fruit pulp appears to support the prevention of CRC, opening new possibilities for its use in dietary supplementation, as well as in the development of products and medications for the prevention and treatment of CRC.

Prenatal hypoxia (PH) is a key factor in the development of long-term cardiovascular disorders, which are caused by various mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction (ED), including those associated with NO deficiency. This emphasizes the potential of therapeutic agents with NO modulator properties, such as Thiotriazoline, Angiolin, Mildronate, and L-arginine, in the treatment of PH. Pregnant female rats were given a daily intraperitoneal dose of 50 mg/kg of sodium nitrite starting on the 16th day of pregnancy.

A major challenging problem facing effective ovarian cancer therapy is cisplatin resistance. Re-sensitization of cisplatin-resistant ovarian cancer cells to cisplatin (CDDP) has become a critical issue. Curcumin (CUR), the most abundant dietary polyphenolic curcuminoids derived from turmeric (), has achieved previously significant anti-cancer effects against human ovarian adenocarcinoma SKOV-3/CDDP cisplatin-resistant cells by inhibition the gene expression of the antioxidant enzymes (, , , and ), transcription factor and signaling pathway (//).

Navelina oranges () are rich in phytonutrients and bioactive compounds, especially flavonoids like hesperidin. This study investigates the anti-inflammatory and anti-fibrotic properties of hesperidin (HE) and a polyphenol mixture from Navelina oranges (OE) in human hepatocytes (Hepa-RG) and hepatic stellate cells (LX-2), in order to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. In Hepa-RG cells, HE treatment increased expression of cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2R), which was associated with down-regulation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (p38 MAPK) but had minimal impact on cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) levels.

Studies have demonstrated significant alterations in ovarian oxidative stress levels, ovarian degeneration, and follicular atresia during the broody period in geese. The results of this study showed that during the broody period, geese exhibited degraded ovarian tissues, disrupted follicular development, a thinner granulosa cell layer, and lower levels of ovarian hormones E2, P4, and AMH. Antioxidant activity (GSH, CAT, SOD, T-AOC, and the content of HO) and the mRNA expression levels of antioxidant genes (GPX, SOD-1, SOD-2, CAT, COX-2, and Hsp70) were significantly higher in pre-broody geese compared to laying geese, while the expression of apoptosis-related genes (p53, Caspase-3, and Caspase-9) increased and the anti-apoptotic gene Bcl-2 decreased.

Background: Chordoma, characterized as a slow growing yet locally invasive and destructive bone tumor mainly emerging in the sacrum and clivus, presents a unique challenge due to its rarity, hampering the development of effective treatment strategies. Comprehensive understanding of tumor biology is crucial to suggest novel treatment modalities. Reactive oxygen species (ROS), a family of chemically reactive and unstable oxygen derivatives, are controlled by an intracellular antioxidant system to maintain homeostasis.
