The aim of the European Metrology Research Project MetroBeta is to improve the knowledge of the shapes of beta spectra, both in terms of theoretical calculation and measurement. The precise knowledge of beta spectra is required for the activity standardisation of pure beta emitters. Metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs), a type of cryogenic detectors, with the beta emitter embedded in the absorber have proven to be among the best beta spectrometers, in particular for low-energy beta transitions. Within this project, new designs of MMCs optimized for five different beta energy ranges were developed and a new detector module was constructed. The beta spectra of Sm, C and Tc have been measured so far; additional measurements with Cl are under preparation. Improved theoretical calculation methods and complementary measurement techniques complete the project.

-β, β-β' trifused porphyrins incorporating two distinct active methylene groups (MN = malononitrile and IND = 1,3-indanedione) and their corresponding metal complexes with Cu(II) and Zn(II) have been synthesized with good to excellent yields and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and spectrometric methods. Single crystal X-ray analysis of the Zn(II) complex ZnTFPMB(MN) (where TFP = trifused porphyrin and MB = mono benzo) revealed a nonplanar 'armchair' type conformation with a twist angle of 24.10°.

Platelet-derived growth factor alpha (PDGFRA) plays a significant role in various malignant tumors. PDGFRA expression boosts thyroid cancer cell proliferation and metastasis. Radiorefractory thyroid cancer is poorly differentiated, very aggressive, and resistant to radioiodine therapy.

The self-absorption effects observed in the background intensity just above the Si L-emission spectra of Si and β-Si3N4, and the C K-emission spectra of diamond and graphite were examined. Based on comparisons with reported results, the energy positions of absorption edges-representing the bottom of conduction bands (CB)-were assigned. The self-absorption profiles in the background intensities were consistent with previously reported data.

Adding value to food by-products, such as pumpkin seeds, is an important strategy for the complete utilization of plant foods and advancing sustainability goals. This study aimed to maximize the production of bioactive peptides from pumpkin seed protein (PSP) by combining ultrasonic (US) pretreatment (40 kHz, 23.8 W/L) with enzymatic hydrolysis.
