Ten patients suffering from absence epilepsy and showing generalized spike-wave paroxysms in the EEG were treated by progabide monotherapy. Findings concerning clinical data and serial 24 h long-term EEG recordings were compared for the pre-treatment and treatment period. The average total spike-wave duration in 24 h decreased slightly from 810 sec to 699 sec; at follow-up, in 4 cases this trend was found to have reversed. Concerning seizure frequency, a marked anticonvulsant effect could not be confirmed; an initial slight anti-absence activity in some cases seemed to be subjected to the development of tolerance. Side effects were rarely observed and if so were not severe.

Background: Increased uptake on Tau positron-emission tomography (PET) is sometimes observed in the absence of amyloid β accumulation. This A-T+ PET profile might represent primary age-related tauopathy (PART), an amyloid β-independent 3R/4R tauopathy observed in aging brains. Although A-T+ individuals have been shown to follow a different cognitive trajectory compared to A-T- and A+T+ individuals, it remains unknown how they differ in terms of plasma biomarkers.

Sydenham's chorea is an autoimmune reaction against cerebral basal ganglia associated with rheumatic fever, caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus infection. Diagnosis of this condition is difficult because of significant delay between infection onset and symptoms presentation, resulting in few positive biological tests or imaging exams. We report the case of a nine-year-old boy exhibiting hemicorporal abnormal movements with tics for whom [F]FDG PET/CT exam allowed to make the diagnosis, associated with anti-DNase B elevation.

Infantile spasms are common in Down Syndrome (DS), but the mechanisms by which DS predisposes to this devastating epilepsy syndrome are unclear. In general, neuronal excitability and therefore seizure predisposition results from an imbalance of excitation over inhibition in neurons and neural networks of the brain. Animal models provide clues to mechanisms and thereby provide potential therapeutic approaches.

Recent studies have described unique aspects of default mode network connectivity in patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE). A complete background in this field could be gained by combining this research with spectral analysis.
