Each year, millions of people worldwide contract tuberculosis (TB), the deadliest infection. The spread of infections with drug-resistant strains of () that are refractory to treatment poses a major global challenge. A major cause of resistance to antitubercular drugs of last resort, aminoglycosides, is overexpression of the Eis (enhanced intracellular survival) enzyme of , which inactivates aminoglycosides by acetylating them. We showed previously that this inactivation of aminoglycosides could be overcome by our recently reported Eis inhibitors that are currently in development as potential aminoglycoside adjunctive therapeutics against drug-resistant TB. To interrogate the robustness of the Eis inhibitors, we investigated the enzymatic activity of Eis and its inhibition by Eis inhibitors from three different structural families for nine single-residue mutants of Eis, including those found in the clinic. Three engineered mutations of the substrate binding site, D26A, W36A, and F84A, abolished inhibitor binding while compromising Eis enzymatic activity 2- to 3-fold. All other Eis mutants, including clinically observed ones, were potently inhibited by at least one inhibitor. This study helps position us one step ahead of resistance to Eis inhibitors as they are being developed for TB therapy.

Background: Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are recommended for reducing the renal and cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) based on the positive results reported by clinical trials. However, real-world data on the efficacy and the safety of these drugs in CKD population followed in nephrology setting are lacking.
Methods: We report the effects of dapagliflozin in CKD patients by using data collected during a learning program in which 105 nephrologists added dapagliflozin (10 mg/day) to consecutive patients referred to their renal clinics.

A bimetallic organic framework (CuNi-MOF) was synthesized as a corrosion inhibitor using the solvothermal method. The effectiveness of the inhibitor in corrosion prevention of AISI 304 and 316 in 1N hydrochloric acid solution at room temperature was evaluated using weight loss measurements, electrochemical methods, and surface characterization techniques. The formation of CuNi-MOF protective layer on the stainless-steel surface was confirmed through Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopes (FESEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis.

The present study examined the corrosion protection of aluminium in 1M HCl by deploying expired danacid, with techniques such as gravimetric, electrochemical, and density functional theory (DFT). Inhibitor characterization was executed with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), which was supplemented by optimization of parameters with response surface methodology. The results of gravimetric study indicates that the inhibition efficiency (IE) rose with rise in danacid concentration and reduced with rise in temperature.

With increasing awareness of environmental protection, additional attention has been given to environmentally friendly metal anticorrosion research. In this paper, the green organic corrosion inhibitor sodium lignosulfonate (SLS) was extracted from bagasse waste, and a Ce-MOF@SLS smart anticorrosive film containing the inhibitor was prepared on the surface of an aluminum alloy by in situ electrodeposition. The material was characterized by SEM, EDS, FT-IR, XRD and XPS, and its corrosion resistance was tested with EIS and neutral salt spray tests.
