People with concealable stigmatized identities face decisions on whether, when, and to whom to disclose their stigmatized status. Research has shown that disclosing one's identity yields benefits to the individual such as greater social support and increased physical and psychological health outcomes. However, further examination shows greater nuance in the matter: Some disclosures are related to more negative health outcomes, particularly when the response to the disclosure and/or the environment are/is more hostile. Moreover, recent research shows that the active concealment of a stigmatized identity may be a more reliable predictor of psychological well-being than whether a person has disclosed. Future research should consider intersecting identities, as well as the broader consequences of living with a concealable stigmatized identity.

Ethnic prejudice in healthcare has been widely examined, yet little is known about its intersection with stigma and prejudice based on one's health status. The present study investigates the intersections of ethnic prejudice and stigma of chronic disease in a healthcare setting as shaping unique forms of disadvantage. From an intersectional perspective, we examined whether ethnically diverse patients affected by stigmatized health conditions would be differentially perceived and cared for by prospective medical doctors.

People who experience gambling harms commonly experience stigmatisation, which is detrimental to psychological wellbeing, and a significant barrier to help-seeking. While there have been efforts to challenge stigmatisation, there is little empirical evidence available to inform such initiatives. To address this gap in knowledge, we conducted a thematic analysis of naturalistic data in the form of posts made on online support forums by people with experience of gambling-related harm, in order to understand how they are stigmatised, and to identify barriers to help-seeking.

Undergraduates with depression report that they would benefit from science role models who also have depression. If biology instructors who have depression reveal it to their students, it could help meet this need. However, it is unknown how instructors revealing their depression would impact all undergraduate science students, not just those with depression, and whether it would cause some students to have a negative perception of the instructor.

The stigma of underperformance is widely acknowledged but seldom explored. 'Failure to fail' is a perennial problem in health professions education, and learner remediation continues to tax supervisors. In this study, we draw on Goffman's seminal work on stigma to explore supervisors' accounts of judging performance and managing remediation in specialty anesthesia training in Australia and New Zealand.
