Objective: To investigate the expression of erythropoietin (EPO) and erythropoietin receptor (EPOR) in patients with acute leukemia (AL) and its clinical significance.
Methods: The levels of EPO and EPOR in plasma were determined by ELISA kit. mRNA expression levels of EPO and EPOR were determined by RT-RCR. The protein expression levels of EPO and EPOR were detected by Western blot.
Results: The EPO protein levels in marrow plasma of ALL and AML group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05), EPOR protein levels in ALL and AML group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The mRNA levels of EPO and EPOR in ALL and AML groups were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The mRNA levels of EPO and EPOR in the high risk ALL and AML groups were significantly higher than those in the medium, low risk group and the control group (P<0.05). The protein expression levels of EPO and EPOR in ALL and AML groups were significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). The mRNA levels of EPO and EPOR in ALL and AML groups did not correlate with hemoglobin level and erythrocyte count (P>0.05).
Conclusion: The expressions of EPO and EPOR is higher in ALL and AML patients. The expression levels of EPO and EPOR relate with the risk of ALL and AML. High risk patients have higher expression levels of EPO and EPOR, however, the expression levels of EPO and EPOR do not correlate with hemoglobin level and erythrocyte counting.

This study aimed to find whether oral administration of calf bone marrow hydrolysate liposomes (CBMHL) can improve renal anemia. Calf bone marrow was defatted, papain hydrolyzed, liposomalized and lyophilized. Its hematopoietic ability was proved by the colony formation experiment of umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cells in vitro.

Background: Mutations in the gene can disrupt its normal signaling pathways, leading to hematological disorders such as polycythemia vera and other myeloproliferative diseases.
Methodology: In this study, a range of bioinformatics tools, including SIFT, PolyPhen-2, SNAP2, SNPs & Go, PhD-SNP, I-Mutant2.0, MuPro, MutPred, ConSurf, HOPE, and Interpro were used to assess the deleterious effects of missense nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs) on protein structure and function.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exogenous erythropoietin (EPO) on intermittent hypoxia (IH)-induced neuronal injury and the underlying mechanism. Mouse hippocampal neuron HT22 cells were exposed to IH for different durations (1% O for 7 min/21% O for 3 min, one cycle for 10 min). Cell viability was detected by CCK-8.

Background: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a lethal interstitial disease with unknown etiology and no effective cure, posing a great health burden to society. Erythropoietin (EPO) has been demonstrated to have protective roles in various tissues such as brain, spinal cord, heart, kidney and lung tissues. In this study, we investigate the specific anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiapoptotic effects of erythropoietin on lung tissue in a bleomycin-induced rat model of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
