Purpose: To compare the efficacy of local ozone injection versus corticosteroid in plantar fasciopathy treatment.
Patients And Methods: This double-blinded randomized trial was performed on 44 adult patients with plantar fasciopathy. One group (23 patients) received local injection of 40 mg methylprednisolone, while a local injection of 3 cc oxygen-ozone solution was performed for the other group (21 subjects). Severity of pain, functional level, and pressure-pain threshold (PPT) were measured before treatment and 1, 4, and 12 weeks after injection using VAS, Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) questionnaire, and algometer for PPT, respectively.
Results: The majority (65.9%) of the total 44 patients analyzed, were women. Both treatments efficiently relieved patients' pain and improved their functions at 1 and 3 months follow-up time-points. But one week after injection, the improvement in VAS (<0.001) and FAAM (<0.001) was significant only in the corticosteroid group. During the first month, VAS (=0.35) and PPT (=0.003) were still better in the corticosteroid group. However, FAAM revealed no remarkable difference between the two groups (=0.083). Eventually, at the third month of follow-up, there was no remarkable preference between the treatments regarding any of the outcome measures (>0.05). Nevertheless, both methods efficiently improved patients' symptoms, ie, over the 50% of pain reduction and 30% improvement in functional status.
Conclusion: The present results showed no remarkable superiority between the two groups. In other words, although ozone injection showed a slower efficacy than methylprednisolone, it could be used in plantar fasciitis management as an appropriate alternative.

Land use and land cover changes (LULCC) alter local surface attributes, thereby modifying energy balance and material exchanges, ultimately impacting meteorological parameters and air quality. The North China Plain (NCP) has undergone rapid urbanization in recent decades, leading to dramatic changes in land use and land cover. This study utilizes the 2020 land use and land cover data obtained from the MODIS satellite to replace the default 2001 data in the Weather Research and Forecasting-Community Multiscale Air Quality (WRF-CMAQ) model.

The almost hydrophobic PVDF membrane (PVDF matrix) commonly exhibited excellent performance in pollutant rejection but with poor anti-fouling performance. This study intended to develop the rejection performance and enhance anti-fouling of the PVDF membrane in an O/UF/BAC system for high quality water production through leveraging the advantages of in-situ ozonation and the nature of the PVDF membrane. Reduced density gradient (RDG) analysis demonstrated that the PVDF membrane exhibited excellent ozone resistance by reducing hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions between the membrane surface and ozone.

Background: Chronic periodontal disease primarily causes tooth loss and oral frailty and is linked to chronic conditions such as diabetes mellitus. However, its progression and broader studies on chronic diseases have not been well explored. This study aimed to investigate this association using claims data.

As the ozone (O) pollution becomes severe in China, it poses a threat to human health. Currently, studies on the impacts of O on different regions and groups are limited. This review systematically summarizes the relationship between O pollution and mortality and morbidity across the nation, regions, and cities in China, with a focus on the regional and group-specific studies.

Becoming more frequent due to climate change, ozone (O) exposures can cause lung injury. Alveolar type 2 (AT2) cells and hyaluronan (HA), a matrix component, are critical to repairing lung injury and restoring homeostasis. Here, we define the impact of HA on AT2 cells following acute O exposure.
