Thermal and aerodynamic study is performed on a cold store room installed in the south of Tunisia and filled with about 11 tons of dates to be cooled from harvest conditions to about 5 °C. The main object of this study is to define the suitable precooling conditions leading to homogeneous storage temperature inside the room. The considered cold room is of about 67 m of volume and equipped with an evaporator giving the required refrigeration capacity. Three-dimensional CFD model is established taking into consideration the local environmental parameters. The model SST k-ω is used to analyze the air turbulences. For normal design of the cold store room and during a precooling period of 40 h, the air velocity and temperature are determined in the different locations inside the room and vary between 0.25-7 m/s and 3-6 °C. While the product temperature remains higher than the required storage conditions of about 12 °C. A new cold store room design is proposed using specific aerodynamic air deflector profiles. That permits to improve the heat transfer between the cold air and product. The precooling period is reduced of about 10 h and the average product temperature reaches 6 °C.

Objective: To determine the impact of prolonged storage of donor lungs at 10°C of up to 24h on outcome after lung transplantation.

Background: An increasing body of evidence suggests 10°C as the optimal storage temperature for donor lungs. A recent study showed that cold ischemic times can be safely expanded to >12h when lungs are stored at 10°C.

Few studies have explored the impact of blue light-emitting diode (BL) irradiation combined with different storage temperatures on antioxidant defense and cell wall metabolic activities related to the quality deterioration of postharvest strawberries. This study investigates the effects of BL exposure as a non-chemical preservation strategy to improve the postharvest quality of strawberries stored at 22 °C and 8 °C. Over a 10-day storage period, BL irradiation significantly reduced respiratory and ethylene production rates, while preserving fruit firmness and increasing the contents of soluble sugar and total phenol at both temperatures.

This study examined the energy-dependent physiological responses, including stress, innate immune, and antioxidant systems, as well as indicators of energy mobilization, in pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) exposed to intermittent cold, aiming to assess the correlations between these responses. The fish were acclimated to 28 °C, divided into two groups, a control group maintained at 28 °C, and another exposed to 16 °C for two 24 h periods with a 5-day interval between them. The fish were sampled at six time points: baseline (after acclimatization to 28 °C), 24 h after the 1st exposure to 16 °C, after 5 days of recovery at 28 °C, 24 h after the 2nd exposure to 16 °C, and after 24 and 48 h of recovery at 28 °C.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are widely investigated for their implications in cell-cell signaling, immune modulation, disease pathogenesis, cancer, regenerative medicine, and as a potential drug delivery vector. However, maintaining integrity and bioactivity of EVs between Good Manufacturing Practice separation/filtration and end-user application remains a consistent bottleneck towards commercialization. Milk-derived extracellular vesicles (mEVs), separated from bovine milk, could provide a relatively low-cost, scalable platform for large-scale mEV production; however, the reliance on cold supply chain for storage remains a logistical and financial burden for biologics that are unstable at room temperature.

Rainbow trout () is a freshwater fish susceptible to chemical and microbial spoilage, limiting its shelf life. This study aimed to enhance and extend the rainbow trout fillets' shelf life stored at 4°C ± 1°C through an immersion treatment using ultrasound-assisted, defatted pine nut ( Wallich) extracts at concentrations of 1% and 2% (w/v), compared to the control group (0% pine nut). Evaluations were conducted at storage intervals of 0, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 days.
