Electrospun polyurethane/phytic acid nanofibrous membrane for high efficient removal of heavy metal ions. | LitMetric

AI Article Synopsis

Article Abstract

Polyurethane (PU) nanofibers possess large specific surface area and excellent mechanical properties which have been used as the matrix for many applications. Phytic acid is the biocompatible and environment-friendly organic acid with excellent chelating ability of heavy metal ions due to it contains 6 phosphate groups. In this study, the PU/phytic acid nanofibrous membrane has been successfully produced by electrospinning which was used for Pb removal. Though phytic acid would improve the hydrophilicity and reduce the mechanical properties to a certain extent, the phytic acid-modified PU nanofibrous membrane still possessed excellent mechanical properties. The PU/phytic acid nanofibrous membrane achieved the highest adsorption capacity (136.52 mg/g) of Pb under the condition of the pH of Pb solution was 6 and the adsorption temperature and time were 20°C and 10 h which was over 6 times higher the unmodified one's (21.06 mg/g). These results demonstrated that the electrospun PU/phytic acid nanofibrous membrane could obtain high adsorption capacity of Pb and it would achieve the potential application in the fields of the removal of heavy metal ions.

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are key processes in numerous oxygen-involved applications over a wide temperature range. Despite advances in nanofiber engineering to increase active site density and catalytic efficiency for ORR/OER, conventional electrode fabrication methods often compromise the integrity of nanofibrous structures. Herein, a robust strategy is presented for the fabrication of LaCoNiO (LCN) nanofibrous membranes using optimized electrospinning techniques.

Particulate matters (PMs), one of the major airborne pollutants, continue to seriously threaten human health and the environment. Here, a self-crystal-induced electret enhancement (SCIEE) strategy was developed to promote the in-situ electret effect and polarization properties of electrospun poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) nanofibers. The strategy specifically involved the elaborate pre-structuring of stereocomplex crystals (SCs) with uniform dimensions (∼300 nm), which were introduced into PLLA electrospinning solution as the electrets and physical cross-linking points of high density.

Adjusting the structure of the membrane and improving its performance proved to be an effective technique for accomplishing efficient dye wastewater purification. Water erosion of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) core in polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofiber membrane modified with UiO-66-NH was successfully achieved, in this study, using coaxial electrospinning, and ZIF-8 with excellent performance was further epitaxy-grown in situ. Two differently shaped and positively charged MOFs confer strong adsorption capacity (adsorption capacity >2042 mg/g) on cationic dyes.
