A comprehensive investigation was undertaken to find evidence of the frequently reported, but never authenticated, "purchase of 150 inmates" from Auschwitz concentration camp by Bayer to test a new narcotic, resulting in the death of all investigated inmates. The archives of Auschwitz camp, Bayer, and the so-called former Soviet Union, where evidence of this alleged misconduct could have been saved, were investigated, but no evidence was found. Many records concerning concentration camp experiments on humans had been destroyed, but given the Nazis' meticulous record-keeping, the death of 150 inmates should have been recorded somewhere. Unethical medical research was indeed undertaken by physicians in concentration camps in many medical specialties, but no records regarding anesthesia-related medical misconduct during the Nazi period were found despite the allegations to the contrary that have been investigated here.

Objectives: To investigate which phosphodiesterase (PDE) isoforms are expressed in fibroblasts isolated from the tunica albuginea (TA) of patients with Peyronie's disease (PD), and to measure the potency of PDE inhibitors in preventing transformation of these fibroblasts to profibrotic myofibroblasts.
Materials And Methods: Fibroblasts isolated from the TA of men undergoing surgery for correction of PD curvature were transformed to myofibroblasts using transforming growth factor beta-1. The expression of 21 PDE isoforms was investigated using quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction and protein analysis, as were the effects of various PDE inhibitors on prevention of myofibroblast transformation.

This observational study investigated the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in a team of professional cyclists without diabetes during two consecutive annual training camps. The goal of the study was twofold: to present the aggregated CGM metrics such as day/overnight CGM average (DAYAVG/OVNAVG) for this group of professional cyclists and to study the association between exercise energy expenditure (megajoules per day), carbohydrate intake (grams), and minimum overnight CGM values (millimoles per liter). Our previous studies showed calcium (Ca) deficiency reduced ovarian weight and declined numbers of dominant follicles in an avian model. This study investigates quality changes occurred in sliced pork belly with different fat content during refrigerated storage, and the potential of spectral imaging technology in predicting quality properties. Pork bellies with different fat levels (low 'LF', medium 'MF' and high 'HF') were selected from slaughtering houses and directly transferred to the laboratory. The sliced bellies were packed in modified atmosphere packages with high oxygen levels (80 %) and the essential visual and olfactory characteristics, microbiological load, pH, lipid oxidation and colour values were assessed throughout 20 days of refrigerated storage.
