Hemothorax is a serious complication following thoracic surgery, often resulting from vessel injury or rib fractures, and is typically managed with chest tube drainage. Persistent or loculated hemothorax, referred to as retained hemothorax, may require more invasive interventions, such as thoracotomy. Although the intrapleural administration of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and deoxyribonuclease (DNase) has shown promise in managing pleural infections, its use for hemothorax remains controversial due to bleeding risks.

Background: The relationship between serum calcium levels and the prognosis of cerebral infarction remains controversial.
Purpose: This study aims to investigate the correlation between serum calcium levels and in-hospital mortality in critically ill patients with ischemic stroke admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using data from the MIMIC-IV database.

Background: Randomized trials have recently evaluated the non-inferiority of direct thrombectomy versus intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) followed by endovascular therapy in anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke in patients eligible for IVT within 4.5 h from stroke onset with controversial results. We aimed to assess the effect of IVT on the clinical outcome of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in the RESILIENT trial.

Introduction: Endovascular mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is an established treatment for large vessel occlusion strokes with a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score of 6 or higher. Data pertaining to minor strokes, medium, or distal vessel occlusions, and most effective MT technique is limited and controversial.
Methods: A multicenter retrospective study of all patients treated with MT presenting with NIHSS score of 5 or less at 29 comprehensive stroke centers.

Syphilis is a sexually or vertically (mother to fetus) transmitted disease caused by the infection of subspecie (TPA). The incidence of syphilis has increased over the past years despite the fact that this bacterium is an obligate human pathogen, the infection route is well known, and the disease can be successfully treated with penicillin. As complementary measures to preventive campaigns and early treatment of infected individuals, development of a syphilis vaccine may be crucial for controlling disease spread and/or severity, particularly in countries where the effectiveness of the aforementioned measures is limited.
