Introduction: This study assesses the burden, distribution, and evolution of muscle inflammation and damage on MRI among subtypes of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM).

Methods: Musculoskeletal MRIs performed in 66 patients with IIM and 10 patients with non-IIM between 2009 and 2016 were retrospectively graded for muscle edema, fatty replacement (FR), and atrophy.

Results: Immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (IMNM) patients had severe and extensive lower limb muscle edema, FR, and atrophy. The pelvic muscles and adductors were significantly more affected than in patients with dermatomyositis and polymyositis. Inclusion body myositis (IBM) was characterized by marked anterior thigh involvement, which stabilized or progressed at follow-up imaging. Atrophy and FR grades improved over time in some non-IBM IIM patients.

Discussion: Patients with IMNM and IBM have characteristic patterns of muscle MRI abnormalities that may allow them to be differentiated radiologically from other IIM subtypes. Muscle damage in non-IBM IIM may be reversible.

This study investigates the impact of maternal gestation diets with varying fiber contents on gene expression and chromatin accessibility in fetuses and piglets fed a low fiber diet post weaning. High-fiber maternal diets, enriched with sugar beet pulp or pea internal fiber, were compared to a low-fiber maternal diet to evaluate their effects on liver and muscle tissues. The findings demonstrate that maternal high-fiber diets significantly alter chromatin accessibility, predicted transcription factor activity and transcriptional landscape in both fetuses and piglets.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the association and prediction of hip abduction-adduction and knee flexion-extension isokinetic absolute and relative strength and power at 60°/s and 180°/s from functional tests performance (i.e., Up-and-Go Test [seconds], 30-Second Chair Stand Test [repetitions and relative and allometric power], 30-Second Arm Curl Test [repetitions], and 6-Minute Walk Test [meters]) in older adults.

Pathogenic variants in cause congenital muscular dystrophy through hypoglycosylation of alpha-dystroglycan (OMIM #615350). The established phenotypic spectrum of GMPPB-related disorders includes recurrent rhabdomyolysis, limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, neuromuscular transmission abnormalities, and congenital muscular dystrophy with variable brain and eye anomalies. We report a 9-month-old male infant with congenital muscular dystrophy, infantile spasms, and compound heterozygous pathogenic variants (c.

Despite the advances in bionic reconstruction of missing limbs, the control of robotic limbs is still limited and, in most cases, not felt to be as natural by users. In this study, we introduce a control approach that combines robotic design based on postural synergies and neural decoding of synergistic behavior of spinal motoneurons. We developed a soft prosthetic hand with two degrees of actuation that realizes postures in a two-dimensional linear manifold generated by two postural synergies.
