Understanding the heat tolerances of small mammals and birds has taken on new urgency with the advent of climate change. Here, we review heat tolerance limits, pathways of evaporative heat dissipation that permit the defense of body temperature during heat exposure, and mechanisms operating at tissue, cellular, and molecular levels.

Purpose Of Review: There is an increasing awareness among clinicians that industrial and household food processing methods can increase or decrease the allergenicity of foods. Modification to allergen properties through processing can enable dietary liberations. Reduced allergenicity may also allow for lower risk immunotherapy approaches.

High temperatures can impede the growth and development of soybean plants, resulting in decreased yield and seed quality. Heat-induced damage can be mitigated by adjusting sowing date and selecting genotypes that are suitable for cultivation in hot climates. A 2-year (2017-2018) field experiment was conducted at Safiabad Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Education Center, employing a split-plot design with three replications.

Hyperthermia is an adjuvant to chemotherapy and radiotherapy and sensitizes tumors to these treatments. However, repeated heat treatments result in acquisition of heat resistance (thermotolerance) in tumors. Thermotolerance is an adaptive survival response that appears to be mediated by upregulated cellular defenses.

Acid adaptive response (AAR) is a survival mechanism that allows bacteria to develop enhanced stress tolerance. Our previous research identified AAR in Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris, a thermo-acidophilic bacterium responsible for fruit juice spoilage. However, the roles of specific acidulants, adaptive temperatures, and acidic juice matrices in triggering AAR remain elusive.

Coral reefs are degrading at an accelerating rate owing to climate change. Understanding the heat stress tolerance of corals is vital for their sustainability. However, this tolerance varies substantially geographically, and information regarding coral responses across latitudes is lacking.
