Herein, we report the synthesis of metal complexes of vanadium with heterocyclic tetradentate ligand. Four N atoms of the heterocyclic porphyrin ring occupy the equatorial position and O atom of salicylic acid occupies the axial position in the complex. The thermal and chemical stability of the complexes were assessed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The electrochemical behavior of the designed complexes is also studied using cyclic voltammetry. These complexes were then further evaluated for in vitro anticancer effects, anti-oxidant and behavior during acute toxicity of the synthesized porphyrin ligands and their oxovanadium(IV) complexes. The interaction of these metal complexes with radical scavenger 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), encouraged us to study the anti-oxidant behavior of such complexes. The complex (SSA)VO(TMP) i.e. oxovanadium(IV)tetra(4-methoxyphenyl)porphyrinsulphosalicylate showed in vitro cytotoxic activity against glioblastoma (T986). It would be pertinent to mention here that the complex also did not exhibit any adverse toxicological symptoms and mortality in the target animal at the limit test dose level of 2000 mg/kg body weight.

We present a straightforward synthetic route to the novel chromium carbonyl-stabilized paramagnetic Sb-based cluster [EtN][SbCr(CO)] ([EtN][]), which represented a rare example of the intact Sb tetrahedron structurally characterized in the solid state. Complex exhibited versatile reactivities toward groups 7-9 metal carbonyls, dioxygen, or [Cu(MeCN)][BF] to form selective orbital-controlled Sb-based products, including transmetalated paramagnetic complexes [EtN][SbCrMn(CO)]Br ([EtN][]Br), [EtN][SbCrFe(CO)] ([EtN][]), and [EtN][SbCrCo(CO)] ([EtN][]), the dioxygen-activated paramagnetic cluster [EtN][OSbCr(CO)] ([EtN][]), or the spin-quenched complex [EtN][SbCr(CO)] ([EtN][]), respectively. The structural nature, bonding properties, paramagnetism, and semiconductivity of these unprecedented transition metal carbonyl-protected Sb-based clusters were further realized with DFT calculations.

The reaction of a hydrated cobalt(II) perchlorate salt with the rigid tripodal ligand, tris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl) phosphine oxide, (O)P(3,5-DMPz)3, results in selective in situ hydrolysis of a P‒N bond affording a neutral mononuclear Co(II) complex, [Co{(O)P(O)(3,5-DMP)2}2] (1Co(II)). The X-ray crystal structure of 1Co(II) shows that it is formed by the coordination of two N2O-tripodal (O)P(O)(3,5-DMPz)2 ligands, leading to a CoIIN4O2 coordination sphere with an elongated pseudo-trigonal antiprismatic geometry. The analysis of the dc magnetic data revealed that this compound shows a strong easy-axis magnetic anisotropy with D = ‒45.

Mitochondrial genetics, signalling and stress responses.

Mitochondria are multifaceted organelles with crucial roles in energy generation, cellular signalling and a range of synthesis pathways. The study of mitochondrial biology is complicated by its own small genome, which is matrilineally inherited and not subject to recombination, and present in multiple, possibly different, copies. Recent methodological developments have enabled the analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in large-scale cohorts and highlight the far-reaching impact of mitochondrial genetic variation.

Due to their exceptional anisotropic magnetic properties, lanthanide ion (Ln) complexes are of great utility in many fields of chemistry, including magnetic materials, biomedical imaging, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. How to achieve large magnetic anisotropies in the Ln complexes coordinated with open-chain ligands is still a challenge. In this study, we started from the open-chain 4PS-PyMTA ligand and assessed the magnetic anisotropy using installed Ln coordinating pendants by increasing size and rigidity.

The primary role of phosphate-metal- natural organic matter (humic) ternary complexes as drivers of long-term phosphorus plant nutrition in acidic soils.

Several studies have shown that inorganic phosphate (Pi) can form stable complexes in soil and soil solution, with some fractions of natural organic matter (NOM), mainly humic substances, through metal bridges. However, the role of these types of complexes in plant phosphorus (P) nutrition remains unclear. On the other hand, Pi in acidic soils is rapidly absorbed and fixed, becoming unavailable for plants.
