The sensitivity of the neoplastic cell to amino acid deprivation shows considerable variation. The responsiveness of human leukemic cell cultures to L-asparaginase indicates that those of T cell origin are much more sensitive to the action of this L-asparagine-depleting enzyme than those of B cell origin. A cautionary note is raised concerning amino acid analogs. Minor changes such as substituting selenium for sulfur to make seleno-L-methionine rather than L-methionine may lead to considerable differences in their respective metabolic polls in vivo. A systemic survey of amino acid requirements of human neoplasms is desirable before designing new analogs.

SARS-CoV-2 is an oral pathogen that infects and replicates in mucosal and salivary epithelial cells, contributing to oral post-acute sequelae COVID-19 (PASC) and other oral and non-oral pathologies. While pre-existing inflammatory oral diseases provides a conducive environment for the virus, acute infection and persistence of SARS-CoV-2 can also results in oral microbiome dysbiosis that further worsens poor oral mucosal health. Indeed, oral PASC includes periodontal diseases, dysgeusia, xerostomia, pharyngitis, oral keratoses, and pulpitis suggesting significant bacterial contributions to SARS-CoV-2 and oral tissue tropism.

A one-pot process involving cycloaddition of the azaoxyallyl cation with thioamide and a synchronous E1-type elimination of the C2 amino group from the cycloadduct is disclosed, leading to diverse alkylidene-4-thiazolidinones. Amine elimination under acid-free conditions or without quaternization and forging a stereoselective olefin formation were among the interesting reactivity traits revealed through the present work. Conjugated thioamide permitted side-chain branching through a three-component process.

Synthesis of high-molecular-weight polypeptides and their block copolymer macromolecular architectures from β-sheet-promoting L-amino acids is still an unresolved problem. Here, an elegant steric hindrance-assisted ring-opening polymerization (SHAROP) strategy is introduced to access β-sheet poly(L-tyrosine) having more than 250 units.
