Morphological biomarkers can be used to establish a diagnosis of fly larvae structural damage and toxicity to target cells by biopesticide candidates. Insecticide activity of natural compounds such as essential oil (CLLEO) extracted from leaves, and its major constituent -phellandrene have proven to be a novel biopesticide candidate against third instar larvae (L3) of . In this way, groups of 20 L3 were placed on filter paper impregnated with different concentrations of CLLEO, from 0.31 to 2.86 μL/cm and phellandrene, from 0.29 to 1.47 μL/cm. The extracts were solubilized in ethanol. Data shown in this article is related to the research article "Can an overlooked by-product from turmeric industry be effective for myiasis control?" Chaaban et al., 2019. Data on L3 toxicity was observed after 6 and 24h of contact with both extracts, as well as a marked reduction of L3 movement, color changes in the cuticle and progressive darkening in their body. Major cuticle damage and L3 mortality were reported.

Integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis of anthocyanin metabolism in wheat pericarp.

BMC Genom Data

January 2025

Institute of Biotechnology and Food Science, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences/Hebei Key Laboratory of Plant Genetic Engineering, Shijiazhuang, 050000, China.

Background: Wheat seeds display different colors due to the types and contents of anthocyanins, which is closely related to anthocyanin metabolism. In this study, a transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis between white and purple color wheat pericarp aimed to explore some key genes and metabolites involved in anthocyanin metabolism.

Results: Two wheat cultivars, a white seed cultivar Shiluan02-1 and purple seed cultivar Hengzi151 were used to identify the variations in differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially accumulated flavonoids (DAFs).

Diabetes mellitus, particularly type 2 diabetes, is a growing global health challenge characterized by chronic hyperglycemia due to insulin resistance. One therapeutic approach to managing this condition is the inhibition of α-glucosidase, an enzyme involved in carbohydrate digestion, to reduce postprandial blood glucose levels. In this study, a series of thiosemicarbazide-linked quinoline-piperazine derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, to identify new agents for type 2 diabetes management.

Oncogenic role of RARG rearrangements in acute myeloid leukemia resembling acute promyelocytic leukemia.

Nat Commun

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substance and Function of Natural Medicines, NHC Key Laboratory of Biotechnology of Antibiotics, Institute of Medicinal Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) featuring retinoic acid receptor-gamma (RARG) rearrangements exhibits morphological features resembling those of acute promyelocytic leukemia but is associated with drug resistance and poor clinical outcomes. However, the mechanisms underlying the role of RARG fusions in leukemogenesis remain elusive. Here, we show that RARG fusions disrupt myeloid differentiation and promote proliferation and self-renewal of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) by upregulating BCL2 and ATF3.

Nonlinear exposure-response associations of daytime, nighttime, and day-night compound heatwaves with mortality amid climate change.

Nat Commun

January 2025

School of Public Health, Shanghai Institute of Infectious Disease and Biosecurity, Key Lab of Public Health Safety of the Ministry of Education and NHC Key Lab of Health Technology Assessment, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

Heatwaves are commonly simplified as binary variables in epidemiological studies, limiting the understanding of heatwave-mortality associations. Here we conduct a multi-country study across 28 East Asian cities that employed the Cumulative Excess Heatwave Index (CEHWI), which represents excess heat accumulation during heatwaves, to explore the potentially nonlinear associations of daytime-only, nighttime-only, and day-night compound heatwaves with mortality from 1981 to 2010. Populations exhibited high adaptability to daytime-only and nighttime-only heatwaves, with non-accidental mortality risks increasing only at higher CEHWI levels (75th-90th percentiles).

Ten compounds were separated by various modern chromatographic methods from mastic. They were identified by HR-ESI-MS, IR, UV, NMR, quantum chemical calculation of NMR(qcc-NMR) and comparison with reported data in literature as 17β-hydroxy-28-norolean-18-en-3-one(1), 28-norolean-12,17-dien-3,11-dione(2), 28-norolean-16,18-dien-3-one(3),(24Z)-26-hydroxy-7,24-dientirucalla-3-one(4), masticadienonic acid(5)、masticadienolic acid(6)、erythrodiol(7), 3β,28-dihydroxyoleana-11,13(18)-diene(8), 3-oxo-olean-9(11),12-dien-28-oic acid(9), and 12-oleane-3,11-dione(10). Among them, compound 1 was a novel compound and compound 2 was a novel natural product.
