Mice intraperitoneally treated with various Pseudomonas aeruginosa products or lipopolysaccharides of some selected Enterobacteriaceae representatives were found also to react by an increased slime secretion of the eye conjunctivae. The condition, tentatively designated as "Slimy Eyes Phenomenon", started to develop shortly post-treatment, culminated within 24-48 h when the eyes became fully glued up with slime, and receded 48-72 h later, leaving no sequelae for the eye or the general condition of the animal. No such phenomenon has to date been observed in other laboratory animal species.

Gastropods, a mollusk class including slugs and snails, represent an extraordinarily diverse and ecologically significant group of organisms featuring the largest class of invertebrates. They can be classified as aquatic and terrestrial animals having coiled shells, although some species have reduced or absent shells. Their unique body structure includes a muscular foot for locomotion, a visceral mass containing essential organs, and a distinct head region with sensory organs such as tentacles and eyes.

Mucus is a slimy hydrogel that lines the mucosal surfaces in our body, including the intestines, stomach, eyes, lungs and urogenital tract. This glycoprotein-rich network is truly the jack of all trades. As a barrier, it lubricates surfaces, protects our cells from physical stress, and selectively allows the passage of nutrients while clearing out pathogens and debris.

A slimy, hydrated mucus gel lines all wet epithelia in the human body, including the eyes, lungs, and gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts. Mucus forms the first line of defence while housing trillions of microorganisms that constitute the microbiota. Rarely do these microorganisms cause infections in healthy mucus, suggesting that mechanisms exist in the mucus layer that regulate virulence.

A 19-year-old female student presented with painless, progressive proptosis in the right eye for the past six months causing significant cosmetic blemish and double vision. Clinical evaluation revealed normal visual acuity, normal pupillary reflex, severe proptosis, and dystopia. Orbital imaging revealed a heterogeneous mass in superior orbit displacing the globe inferiorly and causing extensive bony erosion of frontal bone superiorly and invading the frontal sinus.
