Proposal of novel Predicted No Effect Concentrations (PNEC) for metals in freshwater using Species Sensitivity Distribution for different taxonomic groups.

Sci Rep

March 2025

Research Group on Environmental Applications of Advanced Oxidation Processes, Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering, The Federal University of Minas Gerais, Av. Antônio Carlos, 6627, Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, 31270-901, Brazil.

Water pollution by metals and metalloids promotes toxic effects to aquatic biota especially in mining regions. Environmental legislation applied to protect aquatic life from the toxicity of metals relies on the definition of protective values (PVs) for each compound. Among methods used to define PVs, Species Sensitivity Distribution (SSD) curves enable the derivation of the Predicted No Effect concentration (PNEC).

This study aims to contribute to the development of a comprehensive framework for sexual well-being of young people. By making space for diverse young people's perspectives through co-creating the framework, we seek to enhance the understanding of sexual well-being in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) research in a culturally sensitive and inclusive way. A modified Delphi study invited SRHR young professionals (aged 18-30) with different backgrounds to participate as experts in three rounds of online discussions.

Point cloud completion aims to infer a complete shape from its partial observation. Many approaches utilize a pure encoderdecoder paradigm in which complete shape can be directly predicted by shape priors learned from partial scans, however, these methods suffer from the loss of details inevitably due to the feature abstraction issues. In this paper, we propose a novel framework, termed SPAC-Net, that aims to rethink the completion task under the guidance of a new structural prior, we call it interface.

Children who receive therapeutic feeding for wasting treatment but do not reach the anthropometric definitions of recovery (usually within 12-16 weeks) are categorised as 'non-responders' and considered as treatment failures. We conducted a pooled analysis to explore the growth trajectories of non-responders and the appropriateness of the definition of 'non-response'. We pooled 14 studies of children aged 6-59 months receiving treatment for wasting.
