Purpose: We analyzed the role of oxidative stress in detrusor overactivity (DO) by measuring serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC), total oxidant status (TOS), binding capacity of exogenous cobalt to human albumin (IMA), serum advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), paraoxonase (PON), and arylesterase.
Materials And Methods: The study included 38 female patients diagnosed with DO and 29 healthy female subjects forming the control group. Serum total antioxidant capacity (TAC), total oxidant status (TOS), binding capacity of exogenous cobalt to human albumin (IMA), serum advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP), paraoxonase (PON), and arylesterase were analyzed. The results of serum TAC, TOS, IMA, AOPP, PON, and arylesterase of the subjects in both groups were compared.
Results: There was no difference between the groups in terms of age. When compared to the control group, serum TAC and IMA levels were statisticaly lower (P < 0,001) and higher (P = 0,003), respectively. However, TOS, AOPP, PON, arylesterase levels were similar in both groups ( p > 0.05 ).
Conclusion: There seems to be an association between DO and oxidative damage according to our results, this can be measured by analyzing TAC and IMA in this patient group.

Objective: Paraoxonase-1 (PON1) is a high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-associated enzyme, that has been implicated as a biomarker of cardiovascular risk in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We aimed to investigate how different biologic therapies affect levels of PON1 and oxylipins.
Methods: 1213 adult patients with RA in the Comparative Effectiveness Registry to study Therapies for Arthritis and Inflammatory CoNditions cohort study with moderate-to-high disease activity (Clinical Disease Activity Index (CDAI) >10) who initiated a new biologic (tocilizumab (TCZ), n=296; abatacept, n=374; tumour necrosis factor inhibitors, n=427; rituximab, n=116) were followed prospectively with serum specimens analysed for PON1 activity by arylesterase (ARYL), lactonase (LAC) and PON assays at baseline and after 6 months of biologic therapy.

Paraoxonase (PON) enzymes (PON1, PON2 and PON3) exert antioxidant properties through arylesterase, lactonase and paraoxonase activities. Increasing findings suggested their potential involvement, particularly PON1 and PON2, in Alzheimer's disease (AD), a neurodegenerative pathology characterized by early oxidative stress. Specifically, decreased serum PON1-arylesterase and lactonase activities seem to be associated with an increased brain oxidative damage in early AD, leading to hypothesize that PON activity alterations might be an early event in AD.
