Rhombohedral graphite features peculiar electronic properties, including persistence of low-energy surface bands of a topological nature. Here, we study the contribution of electron-hole excitations toward inelastic light scattering in thin films of rhombohedral graphite. We show that, in contrast to the featureless electron-hole contribution toward Raman spectrum of graphitic films with Bernal stacking, the inelastic light scattering accompanied by electron-hole excitations in crystals with rhombohedral stacking produces distinct features in the Raman signal which can be used both to identify the stacking and to determine the number of layers in the film.

Correlated topological flat bands in rhombohedral graphite.

Flat bands and nontrivial topological physics are two important topics of condensed matter physics. With a unique stacking configuration analogous to the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model, rhombohedral graphite (RG) is a potential candidate for realizing both flat bands and nontrivial topological physics. Here, we report experimental evidence of topological flat bands (TFBs) on the surface of bulk RG, which are topologically protected by bulk helical Dirac nodal lines via the bulk-boundary correspondence.

Machine Learning-Assisted Automatically Electrochemical Addressable Cytosensing Arrays for Anticancer Drug Screening.

December 2023

College of Health Science and Engineering, Key Laboratory for the Synthesis and Application of Organic Functional Molecules, Hubei University, Wuhan 430062, China.

The high-throughput and accurate screening of anticancer drugs is crucial to the preclinical assessment of candidate drugs and remains challenging. Herein, an automatically electrochemical addressable cytosensor (AEAC) for the efficient screening of anticancer drugs is reported. This sensor consists of sectionalized laser-induced graphene arrays decorated by the rhombohedral TiO and spherical Pt nanoparticles (LIG-TiO-Pt) with high electrocatalytic activity for HO and a homemade Ag/Pt electrode couple fixed onto the robot arm.

Developing efficient and effective photocatalysts is essential for organic dyes and antibiotic degradation in wastewater. Ni-doped α-FeO/g-CN (NFGCN) photocatalysts were synthesised through a simple co-precipitation technique and used for the ciprofloxacin (CIP) and methylene blue (MB) degradation through photocatalysis. The XRD data indicated the crystallinity of the synthesised iron oxide and its composites with rhombohedral structures with the nature of high purity.

Nanoparticles of iron carbides and nitrides enclosed in graphite shells were obtained at 2 ÷ 8 GPa pressures and temperatures of around 800 °C from ferrocene and ferrocene-melamine mixture. The average core-shell particle size was below 60 nm. The graphite-like shells over the iron nitride cores were built of concentric graphene layers packed in a rhombohedral shape.

A boron-rich boron-carbide material (BC) was synthesized by spark plasma sintering of a ball-milled mixture of high-purity boron powder and graphitic carbon at a pressure of 7 MPa and a temperature of 1930 °C. This high-pressure, high-temperature synthesized material was recovered and characterized by X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Vickers hardness measurements, and thermal oxidation studies. The X-ray diffraction studies revealed a single-phase rhombohedral structure (space group R-3m) with lattice parameters in hexagonal representation as = 5.
