An improved simplified technique is described for reducing the volume of the tongue by operation. A plastic support has been designed on which the tongue can be spread out symmetrically and fixed in position. Gallbladder forceps are applied to the base of the tongue to avoid hemorrhage. An initial incision is made through the whole thickness of the tongue down to the support, and a partial resectomy performed, followed by apposition of the wound edges. The results obtained with this procedure are far superior to those previously reported using other techniques: the operation takes less time and there is almost no loss of blood.

Riga-Fede disease (RFD) is a rare, benign condition marked by traumatic ulceration on the tongue's ventral side in infants. It arises from friction between the tongue and lower incisors during sucking, potentially worsening into a keratinized lesion if the cause is not addressed. This report details the case of a 1-year-6-month-old male with hydrocephalus, cleft palate, corpus callosum dysgenesis, neuropsychomotor developmental delay, and tracheostomy and gastrostomy needs.

Parboiled rice can effectively retain Se during milling. In this study, Se-enriched rice grains were sprayed with three different concentrations of bioSeNPs fertilizer on the leaves at heading stage and then processed into parboiled and milled rice. The aim was to investigate the effects of parboiling on Se speciation, texture, microstructure, taste, and flavor of cooked rice.

Background: Subtotal and total glossectomies for advanced tongue cancer result in significant speech- and swallow-related morbidity, impairing quality of life. This prospective pilot study compares the safety and functional outcomes associated with using a chimeric innervated muscle and fasciocutaneous flap for soft tissue reconstruction.
Materials And Methods: A prospective, non-randomized controlled pilot study evaluated a standardized technique for tongue reconstruction using a chimeric innervated vastus lateralis muscle and anterolateral thigh fasciocutaneous flap.

Wasabi is a type of sauce made from the plant horseradish. During its production and storage, gas production sometimes occurs, which leads to changes in the flavor quality of wasabi. In this study, an electronic nose, electronic tongue, headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry combined with multivariate statistical analysis were used to compare the differences in odor, taste and volatile components between normal and gas-producing wasabi.

Objectives: Ultrasound is a promising low-risk imaging modality that can provide objective airway measurements that may circumvent limitations of drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE). This study was devised to identify ultrasound-derived anatomical measurements that could accurately predict collapse pattern and location based on the VOTE criteria (VOTE: Velum, Oropharynx, Tongue, and Epiglottis).
Methods: Ultrasonography was performed on 20 adult patients of various airway subsites while awake and sedated with concurrent endoscopy performed during drug-induced sleep.
