Schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease with a worldwide prevalence. Neuroschistosomiasis is the most severe presentation of the disease and affects the central nervous system. In this work, Schistosoma mansoni detection was based on self-assembled layers of 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTS) and electrosynthesized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The DNA probe was chemisorbed onto AuNPs. The biosensor was characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The impedimetric response of the MPTS-AuNPs-DNA system indicates an effective modification of the electrode surface. Topographical atomic force microscopy images were used to characterize the self-assembled layers on the gold electrode surface. The proposed biosystem was able to recognize the S. mansoni genome sequence at different concentrations in samples of urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and serum. Several concentration ranges were evaluated: urine (27-50 pg μL), cerebrospinal fluid (25-60 pg μL), and serum (27-42 pg μL). The limit detection (LOD) of the biosensor was 0.6 pg μL. The developed label-free genosensor was able to detect small concentrations of S. mansoni DNA in complex biological fluids.

Hepato-intestinal schistosomiasis is characterized by severe pathological changes at advanced chronic stages, including granulomatous lesions and liver fibrosis. The objective of our research was to assess the dynamic expression of profibrotic molecules, the transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1), and proinflammatory cytokines immunomodulation induced by interleukin 17 (IL-17) neutralization in murine Schistosomiasis mansoni. The study included 56 specific pathogen-free male C57BL/6 mice, divided into 3 main groups: GI uninfected normal controls, GII S.

Parasites account for huge economic losses by infecting agriculturally important plants and animals. Furthermore, morbidity and death caused by parasites affect a large part of the world population, especially in economically weak regions. Anthelmintic drugs to tackle this challenge remain scarce and their efficiency becomes increasingly endangered by the advent of drug resistance development.

Schistosomiasis, a neglected tropical disease, is transmitted by freshwater snails. Interruption of transmission will require novel vector-focused interventions. We performed a genome-wide association study of African snails, , exposed to in an endemic area of high transmission in Kenya.

Schistosomiasis stands as one of the most significant parasitic diseases on a global scale, with approximately 250 million infections worldwide. It is imperative to address this pressing issue by developing new antischistosomal drugs. Chalcones have emerged as a promising class of natural compounds, demonstrating noteworthy effects observed in in vitro experiments with Schistosoma mansoni, and demonstrating the ability to inhibit SmNTPDases and apyrase from potatoes.

Purpose: Schistosomiasis remains a parasitic disease affecting millions of people worldwide, requiring interventions like vaccination. In previous work, our group used reverse vaccinology to identify two epitopes from the Schistosoma mansoni proteins, Sm050890 (44-58) and Sm141290 (225-239). This study evaluated the immune response profile and protection induced by peptides, as a mixture of immunogens, in murine vaccination trials.
