Purpose: To assess the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the 23-item Patient Satisfaction in the Intensive Care Unit (PS-ICU-23) and 24-item Family Satisfaction in the Intensive Care Unit (FS-ICU-24) questionnaires.
Materials And Methods: Patients (n = 243) discharged from an intensive care unit (ICU) in Hong Kong and family members (n = 237) completed the translated questionnaires. We used confirmatory factor analysis to assess the construct validity and measurement equivalence across groups (gender, mechanical ventilation, casemix, length of stay in ICU), coefficient alpha for internal consistency (reliability) and concordance correlation coefficient (ρ) for agreement between patients' and family members' perspective on satisfaction.
Results: A three-factor model provided a better fit than the two-factor model for both PS-ICU-23 and FS-ICU-24 questionnaires. Factorial equivalence was present across groups in both questionnaires. Internal consistency was adequate for PS-ICU-23 (coefficient alpha overall domain 0.85; care subscale, 0.83; information subscale, 0.90; decision-making process subscale, 0.67) and for FS-ICU-24 (coefficient alpha overall scale 0.86; care subscale, 0.84; information subscale, 0.89; decision-making process subscale, 0.65). Overall ICU satisfaction agreement was moderate (0.40).
Conclusions: Both Chinese PS-ICU-23 and FS-ICU-24 questionnaires have sound psychometric properties but family satisfaction may not be a good proxy for patient satisfaction in ICU.

Background: Hypertension is the leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Despite advances in blood pressure management, significant racial and ethnic disparities persist, resulting in higher risks of stroke, heart disease, and mortality among non-White populations. Self-measured blood pressure (SMBP) monitoring, also known as home blood pressure monitoring, has shown promise in improving blood pressure control, especially when combined with feedback from healthcare providers.

Background: Left atrial dissection is a rare and occasionally fatal complication of cardiac surgery and is defined as the creation of a false chamber through a tear in the mitral valve annulus extending into the left atrial wall. Some patients are asymptomatic, while others present with various symptoms, such as chest pain, dyspnea, and even cardiac arrest. Although there is no established management for left atrial dissection, surgery should be considered in patients with hemodynamic disruption.

Objectives: Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) is an alternative for patients with severe degenerative mitral regurgitation (MR). The objective of this study was to compare the outcomes of surgery and TEER in older patients with degenerative MR patients using real life data.
Methods: Consecutives older patients (≥ 65 years-old), with severe symptomatic, degenerative MR requiring surgery or TEER between 2013 and 2023 were included.

Background And Objectives: Antibody-negative autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a form of encephalitis characterized by the absence of detectable autoimmune antibodies, despite immunological evidence. However, data on management of patients with antibody-negative AE in the intensive care unit (ICU) are limited. This study aimed to explore the characteristics and subtypes of antibody-negative AE, assess the effects of immunotherapy, and identify factors independently associated with poor functional outcomes in patients requiring intensive care.

The RNase activity of MCPIP1 is essential for regulating cellular homeostasis, proliferation, and tumorigenesis. Our study elucidates the effects of downregulation of MCPIP1 expression and an RNase-inactivating mutation (D141N) on normal epithelial kidney cells, indicating that MCPIP1 expression is a key factor that suppresses neoplastic transformation. We observed that either expression downregulation or mutation of MCPIP1 significantly increased its clonogenicity and altered the expression of cancer stem cell (CSC) markers and factors involved in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
