We present an age-structured model for erythropoiesis in which the mortality of mature cells is described empirically by a physiologically realistic probability distribution of survival times. Under some assumptions, the model can be transformed into a system of delay differential equations with both constant and distributed delays. The stability of the equilibrium of this system and possible Hopf bifurcations are described for a number of probability distributions. Physiological motivation and interpretation of our results are provided.

Background: This study aimed to explore the association between admission HbA1c and the risk of 1-year vascular outcomes stratified by age group in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and diabetes mellitus (DM).
Methods: This study analyzed prospective multicenter data from patients with AIS and DM. Admission HbA1C were categorized as:≤6.

To analyze the disease burden of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in China from 1990 to 2021 and its trend of change, providing evidence for targeted interventions to reduce the burden of AD. A descriptive analysis of AD and its main risk factors among males and females of different ages in China from 1990 to 2021 was conducted using the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 database. The evaluation indicators were incidence rate, prevalence rate, mortality rate, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs).

Mosaic loss of Y chromosome (mLOY) is an acquired condition wherein a sizeable proportion of an organ's cells have lost their Y. Large-scale cohort studies have shown that mLOY is age-dependent and a strong risk factor for all-cause mortality and adverse outcomes of age-related diseases. Emerging multi-omics approaches that combine gene expression, epigenetic and mutational profiling of human LOY cell populations at single-cell levels, and contemporary work in in vitro cell and preclinical mouse models have provided important clues into how mLOY mechanistically contributes to disease onset and progression.

Developing efficient foraging strategies is critical for survival, especially during the high-mortality post-fledging period in birds. This period is particularly challenging for migratory species, where juveniles must navigate unfamiliar environments with limited experience and knowledge. Our study focused on the foraging strategies of 20 juvenile lesser black-backed gulls () during the first 20 days of their initial migratory stopover.

The highly invasive Mediterranean fruit fly (medfly), Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is currently expanding its geographic distribution into cooler temperate areas of the Northern Hemisphere. In marginal conditions, the invasion potential of medfly depends in part on innate tolerance to the novel environmental conditions. Physiological tolerances are potentially influenced by interactions among multiple factors, such as organism age or reproductive maturity, sex, and mating status.
