In addition to natural rubber (NR), several triterpenes are synthesized in laticifers of the Russian dandelion (). Detailed analysis of NR and resin contents revealed different concentrations of various pentacyclic triterpenes such as α-, β-amyrin and taraxasterol, which strongly affect the mechanical properties of the resulting rubber material. Therefore, the reduction of triterpene content would certainly improve the industrial applications of dandelion NR. We developed plants with reduced triterpene contents by tissue-specific downregulation of major laticifer-specific oxidosqualene cyclases (OSCs) by RNA interference, resulting in an almost 67% reduction in the triterpene content of NR. Plants of the T1 generation showed no obvious phenotypic changes and the rubber yield also remained unaffected. Hence, this study will provide a solid basis for subsequent modern breeding programs to develop Russian dandelion plants with low and stable triterpene levels.

To obtain an effective bacterial biocontrol strain against the fungal pathogen , causing rubber tree red root rot disease, healthy rubber tree tissue from Baisha County, Hainan Province, was selected as the isolation source, and bacterial strains with strong antifungal effects against . were screened. The strain was identified by molecular biology, in vitro root segment tests, pot growth promotion tests, and genome detection.

Although the Doppler velocity log is widely applied to measure underwater fluid flow, it requires high power and is inappropriate for measuring low flow velocity. This study proposes a fluid flow sensor that utilizes optical flow sensing. The proposed sensor mimics the neuromast of a fish by attaching a phosphor to two pillar structures (A and B) produced using ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber.

Unlabelled: Plant-associated microbial communities strongly relate to host health and productivity. Still, our knowledge of microbial community spatiotemporal patterns in soil-plant continuum is largely limited. Here, we explored the spatiotemporal dynamics of fungal communities across multiple compartments (phyllosphere, leaf endosphere, soil, rhizosphere, rhizoplane, and root endosphere) of rubber tree in two contrasting seasons collected from Hainan Island and Xishuangbanna.

Herein, conductive polyaniline (PANI) was chemically polymerized on the surface of a bismuth-based metal-organic framework (Bi-MOF) to form conductive PANI@Bi-MOF composites. FT-IR and PXRD measurements verified the successful production of PANI@Bi-MOF, whereas SEM, TEM, and EDAX mapping demonstrated that PANI was uniformly coated on the surface of Bi-MOF. The resulting PANI@Bi-MOF composites were characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), then used to develop a sensitive electrochemical sensor for the detection of lead ions based on differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV).

This study aimed to investigate the influence of different coarse aggregate mineral compositions on the skid resistance performance of asphalt pavement. The imprint method was utilized to assess the contact probability between various graded asphalt surface aggregates and tires. Additionally, macroscopic adhesive friction coefficients between polished surfaces of three types of rock slabs (basalt, limestone, granite) and rubber were determined using a pendulum friction tester.
