In Diamond v Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust [2019] EWCA Civ 585, the Court of Appeal mistakenly applied the wrong test to the issue of the causal link between the surgeon's failure to disclose material information and her physical injury. Even had that test been correct, its application to the facts was open to question and arguably unsympathetic. The decision is also of note for adding to a line of previous Court of Appeal decisions, which have held that breach of the duty of disclosure does not create a stand-alone right to damages for loss of autonomy.

Nanofibrous active layers offer hierarchical control over molecular structure, and the size and distribution of electron donor:acceptor domains, beyond conventional organic photovoltaic architectures. This structure is created by forming donor pathways via electrospinning nanofibers of semiconducting polymer, then infiltrating with an electron acceptor. Electrospinning induces chain and crystallite alignment, resulting in enhanced light-harvesting and charge transport.

Growth plate cartilage (GP) serves as a dynamic site of active mineralization and offers a unique opportunity to investigate the cell-regulated matrix mineralization process. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) provides a means for the direct observation of these mechanisms, offering the necessary resolution and chemical analysis capabilities. However, as mineral crystallinity is prone to artifacts using aqueous fixation protocols, sample preparation techniques are critical to preserve the mineralized tissue in its native form.

The increasing availability of ultrabright Light Sources is facilitating the study of smaller crystals at faster timescales but with an increased risk of severe X-ray damage, leading to developments in multi-crystal methods such as serial crystallography (SX). SX studies on crystals with small unit cells are challenging as very few reflections are recorded in a single data image, making it difficult to determine the orientation matrix for each crystal and thus preventing the combination of the data from all crystals for structure solution. We herein present a Small-Rotative Fixed-Target Serial Synchrotron Crystallography (SR-FT-SSX) methodology, in which rotation of the serial target through a small diffraction angle at each crystal delivers high-quality data, facilitating ab initio unit cell determination and atomic-scale structure solution.
