Background: Stenosis after sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is common though diagnostic criteria and predictors of treatment response is unknown. Endoluminal functional impedance planimetry (EndoFLIP) is a diagnostic tool for measuring lumen geometry. We aimed to use EndoFLIP to characterize SG stenosis.

Methods: We enrolled SG stenosis patients undergoing serial pneumatic dilations between May 2018 and November 2018. Outcomes of interest included pre- and post-dilation EndoFLIP measurements and post-dilation symptom response.

Results: We included 10 patients who underwent a mean of 1.8 ± 0.7 dilations. Pre-dilation EndoFLIP characteristics were similar for responders and non-responders. Responders had larger mean post-dilation diameter (19.9 ± 2.9 mm vs 13.1 ± 1.3 mm, p = 0.007) and DI (21.3 ± 1.0 mm/Hg vs 4.0 ± 5.4 mm/Hg, p = 0.04) than non-responders.

Conclusion: Our pilot study supports the use of EndoFLIP in the management of SG stenosis.

Background: Childhood obesity prevalence remains high, especially in racial and ethnic minority populations with low incomes. This epidemic is attributed to various dietary behaviors, including increased consumption of energy-dense foods and sugary beverages and decreased intake of fruits and vegetables. Interactive, technology-based approaches are emerging as promising tools to support health behavior changes.

Little is known about the effects of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) on atherosclerosis. We aimed to determine if a 90-day intake of Dapagliflozin could improve atherosclerosis biomarkers (namely endothelial function assessed by flow-mediated dilatation [FMD] and carotid intima-media thickness [CIMT]) in diabetic and non-diabetic acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients when initiated in the early in-hospital phase. ATH-SGLT2i was a prospective, single-center, observational trial that included 113 SGLT2i naive patients who were admitted for ACS and who were prescribed Dapagliflozin at a fixed dose of 10 mg during their hospital stay for either type 2 diabetes or for heart failure.

Novel pain assessment tool specific for pulp symptoms to aid diagnosis.

Int Endod J

January 2025

Division of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Centre for Dental Education and Research, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India.

Aim: Although many pain assessment tools exist, none are specific to the relatively unique presentation of pulpal pain. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a novel pain assessment tool based on pulp symptoms.

Methodology: A preliminary list of items best-describing pulpitis was developed based on deductive and inductive approaches and the preliminary tool was piloted (n = 80).
